Close to the Beach

There was just something about seeing this man get as close to the beach as he could. I knew it was a great image and that it had to be B/W.

In the interest of full disclosure he did have a Starbucks Iced Latte on the rail. I took it out as it was a distraction.

I like the shot and the emotion it imparts. My only question is the conversion. It seems too "High key" for my taste. The sand is washed out. Is the original the same?

No, the original has good color for the sand and the sky. The man however is somewhat shadowed. When I messed around with levels and exposure I liked the way it turned out. The high key sand and sky as opposed to him being in shadow.

Maybe it's too arty or just my take on it. I saw the unobtainable being in bright light and him in the wheelchair in shadow being held back.

And sometimes I just like the look. For what it's worth....

I agree w/ Peter , the washed out sand doesn't really work for me.

That's the great thing about art, it's in the eye of the beholder. I see what you were going for. On that level, it works. May not be for all but art never is.

I dig it - a poignant image. Sometimes the sun and shadows are what they are and you have to make choices - I like the fact that I can see (even with my bleary old eyes) the man's face - like he's thinking back to the times he'd be at the water's edge.
