Infrared from today.
Lens: 21mm Camera: k200d ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: >6s Aperture: F8
Posted By: TOUGEFC, 03-27-2010, 09:33 PM

Went out today and shot some more infrared (this is my second attempt doing infrared).
k200d/ r72/CWB
20second f8 exposure.

Very challenging to do, getting the custom white balance right and its impossible to see the composition in the veiwfinder, its all trial and error.
This was the best of the bunch.

The biggest job remains in PP, where colour manipulations come into their own and make the image into a work of art. Keep at it.

The R72 filter is definitely a pain in the butt, I was never able to get a really sharp photo with it, although I did get some interesting results. This looks a lot better than most of the ones that I've taken though.

Yeah i hear ya. The hardest part is that you cant see what composure youve set until the photo has been taken, and the fact that longish shutter speeds are needed so anything thats effected by wind will come out blury and getting the custom white balance right can be hard sometimes too! But the results do pay off when you manage to pull off a half decent photo lol !

Exactly! I'm not sure how people do it with the R72 filter to be honest, unless you have something that you can easily set focus to infinity or something.

Thats exactly what i try to do, find a nice big open area in mid-day and set to infinity and cross fingers! I may as well have a blind-fold on! lol

Im planning on upgrading to a K-7 later this year, so i may look into getting this k200d converted to a infrared only camera.

Why not read up on hyper focusing, it would mean using older lenses with the markings on them, or a cheap printable DOF calculator from the internet, but I think that could be a great help. Set your lens to whatever distance and goto town.

What the hyper focus length tells you is that everything within a certain range to infinity will be in focus. Which could mean on a say a 28mm at a certain f-stop. Everything from 2 feet to infinity will be in focus, which would be helpful for not being able to see through the view finder.

Very cool shot, I really like the blues and whites together. I really need to try that filter sometime as it really opens creative options.

I have to admit that infrared isn't my favorite thing, but this is really well done. Keep practicing and keep sharing!!

Very surreal photograph. The blurring on the trees from the winds is great in my opinion. Reminds me of old old cameras that needed long exposures and always had the in the backround. Great colours, riminds me of mints?!
