Air Race Interlaken
Posted By: tcom, 07-15-2007, 02:24 PM

Today I was at the Red Bull Air Race in Interlaken (Switzerland).

The planes are really hard to catch, they fly at 400km/h and make very sharp turns. As the sun was way too bright to check any photo on display, I just shot all with SR on and hoped it will do. In worked on some, and did not on others. In such situations, I missed the K10D has "only" 3 fps, but back at home, I was happy it is not faster, less photos means less sorting.

Here are a few shots of the day, all with K10D and Tokina 80-400

1/125s f/10.0 at 330.0mm iso100

1/125s f/11.0 at 330.0mm iso100

1/125s f/10.0 at 300.0mm iso100

1/200s f/9.0 at 200.0mm iso100

1/160s f/11.0 at 330.0mm iso100

1/500s f/5.6 at 360.0mm iso100

1/800s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso200

Beside the race, a small airshow took place during the breaks:

1/1000s f/5.6 at 230.0mm iso100

1/800s f/5.6 at 250.0mm iso100

1/640s f/5.6 at 360.0mm iso100

1/800s f/5.6 at 100.0mm iso100

Great photos- looks like you have a large speck of dust in the upper left corner of your sensor, though!

I passed by the race by train today on my way down from the mountains My K10D's battery was depleted, and we were all exhaused by the 8-hour trip that we decided to pass on watching the race, though.

Very good seen. I like the no. 9. But your all of your pics are good. I don't have any experience taking pictures like that and I think it isn't easy to get it.

All very nice pix. I'm going to an airshow in a couple months and to hope do 1/2 as good. Not sure if I should take the K100D and the 70-300 and 18-50, or just the S3 IS. Bag-size limitations at the event...

Nice pictures, I was also there today btw

Will try to post some pictures later...

Mo, how long are you staying in Switzerland? Are you coming to Fribourg (where I live), or maybe in Bern (less than 30min away) or in the french part?
Have you liked what you've seen so far?

Mo: there was a hair in the upper left corner of the sensor, but I saw it only once back. I hope you enjoy your stay in Switzerland.

SpecialK: thankfully, there were no bag size limitations here. But I would take the DSLR and the tele if allowed. I have done one single airshow with a compact camera and will not make it again, AF too slow, no really good viewfinder, shutter lag and low fps.

Lazar: do not hesitate to share your photos.

Thank you for all your comments.

Well, this is due to an even stronger selection, Jack.
