A few shots from Colorado
Lens: varied Camera: K100D Photo Location: Golden Gate Canyon, near Denver
Posted By: RoxnDox, 04-06-2010, 06:29 AM

Springtime is coming to the mountains, but it has to keep fighting with Old Man Winter... This little creek was damn cold (I was lying down in the grass next to it, trying to get these photos and still stay dry...) but very interesting in the little ice formations. This was the lowly Mk I 18-55 kit lens with a Promaster CPL on it to cut reflections off the water, pretty much sitting on the grass at the edge of the water. The mountainside was late afternoon, I just liked the light Green Mountain, in one of the Jefferson County Open Space parks. The stump and snowstorm were taken up in the high country on the way to Nederland.

C&C welcome. The stump/boulder picture will likely appear in the critique section, there are some postprocessing questions I'd like to raise - but it'll have to wait for my day job to ease off a bit.

Jim

I like them all. #3 is a very unusual but nonetheless appealing. #5 would have been brilliant if the atmosphere was clearer. Beautiful location

Thanks, it's a beautiful spot, and I hit it on a day where the light was just amazing. Dark and hazy and cloudy in hte background, but the sun was shining very brightly on the slopes...

The atmosphere was filled with little snowflakes flying by at a pretty good speed, I'll try harder next time

Thanks

Thanks :-) We have a lot of forum members from around there, so there are a lot of really good photos of Colorado in various galleries. Check out Marc's gallery or jbrowning's gallery especially...

Man, I love Colorado. Beautiful place! I really this series, especially the third one. Your ice shots are really cool too. Something different, very nice.

Very nice shots, the first one looks really good with all that ice. Unfortuately, all the ice around here has melted and I have none to shoot. I also really like your last one, that is quite a view and I wish I was seeing it right now. The blues in the sky look really good and the greens from all the pine trees looks really nice as well. If I were you I would go and get that last one printed very large and hung on your wall because it really does look that good.

Thanks for sharing.

I love the trips there... Getting back to mountains is one of those things that restores my soul - every once in a while I just have to go visit the places where you can see the bones of the earth...

I've seen plenty of ice-fringed creeks, but never the "bells" on twigs like this one. I couldn't pass up a chance to shoot something cool like those. The light on the mountainside was another one of those "gotta try to capture it" things too Glad you like it!

Thank you! I've been thinking about getting one of those printed-on-aluminum pictures done, and this one is a good candidate for that :-)
