Oh this is very nice! I've been wanting to go and experiment with strobes and flash. How do you like it? I really think this is a great photo.

Amazing picture, looks like a fun photo shoot!
Did you toss the ice in, or did it require another set of hands?
And also, did you take just one picture, or burst and then chose one?

Neat shot! (pun intended)

If it was the really stuff I'd be like Norm slurping it off the table ;-)

Thanks everyone!

Sorry, I'm still getting use to Pentax Forums' setup--couldn't even FIND this post for a while! lol! Just wanted to say thanks to you all for all the nice comments on the blueberry martini shot!

As to how to do it, for those who asked:

USE WATER! Wasting good Vodka would be silly, huh?

Use as much DOF as you can--I believe I shot this somewhere between f/11 and f/16. I prefer f/16, but I did this with sunlight, before I got lights, and it was probably closer to f/11 for purposes of brightest but also fastest exposure. I think it's necessary to have at least 1/500th to 1/1000th sec for speed to truly freeze the action. Otherwise, you'll be getting some to a lot of motion blur.

ISO 100-200 for absolute lack of noise, or as much as possible.

Use a telephoto lens, if possible, unless you want to buy a new closeup lens. . . ;-)

Get it on a tripod (the camera, not the glass! lol!) Focus on the front rim of the glass or right behind it (I use my fingertip, b/c the camera often balks at focusing on glass. . . )

Use an IR remote release or cable release, unless you are lucky enough to have a willing slave to drop the fruit or ice cubes for you. . . I put the three second timer option on in camera, so that I can hold the fruit over the glass, press the IR remote release and count, "one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three one thousand-DROP!" You will take many shots until you get the correct one or ones, and if you are anything like me, you will have many pictures of fruit hitting the side of the glass or knocking the glass over, or suspended OVER the glass or even post-splash, sitting there looking at you, like, "What? I did MY job, lady!"

But if you keep at it (and keep a pitcher of water next to you so you don't have to keep running back and forth to the sink. Ditto paper towels, b/c you don't want lots of icky drops on the outside of the glass--it spoils the effect, you WILL get some great shots!

If you (anyone) try it, let me know! I don't always check here, but I was lured in by the possibility of a k-x if I posted a lot, and then I've gotten addicted to this forum already!

Bunch of nice people here, as far as I can tell! Best wishes everyone, Cindy

Cindy, thanks so much for sharing your technique for that wonderful shot. Good luck on winning the K-x too.

Thanks!

Yeah, good luck to everyone on winning that k-x! It would be a great take-along camera when I visit Harry Potter world at Universal Studios in Florida in November instead of my K20D!

Very cool! I'd love to experiment like this one day. I just need a bit more equipment.

No need for extra equipment with this shot:

I'm not sure how much equipment you would actually need to do that shot. Back then, I was still photographing with white boards (you know, just those white foamcore boards) as backgrounds underneath and behind and using my 3 second timer in the camera and dropping the ice cube and blueberries in myself out doors in ultra sunny, noontime light. NOW, I use two flashes, but that shot was taken with sun and foamcore. . . So don't give up yet!
