Girl in Oslo
Posted By: Frakkas, 07-19-2007, 05:44 AM

I recently bought a second hand *ist DS. I'm still early in a long learning process.

After shooting macro's for a while I decided to give street photography a try. I like to capture "slices of life" and find street photographe very rewarding.

When it comes to street photos I'm fond of high contrast B/W. I think I might have "over-processed" this picture, but I'm fumbling around in PS to get the look I want.

Critique and comments are more than welcome.

Thank you for looking.

Larsen.

Hard to tell very much with the small size of the shot. Could you post a larger version?

Hi Peter.

It is larger in the gallery. I don't know why it appear here in thumb-nail size?

Thank you nycxaro.

I finally managed to embed the picture in a larger size.

When I used the Pentax-forums gallery the picture was thumb-nail sized. But now, linking from flickr, the size is retained. It might even be too large now...

Would you like to try it with the rightmost figure cropped?

Keep sending other pictures too...

I like the grainy and contrast look to it. The DOF is good too. Like bc_the_path suggested try cropping out the lady on the far right and if I could be so bold as to suggest you might want to do the same with the tower on the left. They are both distracting elements IMHO. The side walk area looks over exposed, maybe it could be toned down just a bit.

Funny that not one person objected to her head being ... well ... cut off; - it doesn't bother me either.

She has other 'assets' that draw my attention.

Hi.

Thanks for all the replies, which I appreciate.

Here is another version of the picture. It is a vertical crop to remove some people on the right and the tower on the left (suggestion from bc_the_path and J.Scott).

I also toned the picture down a bit to reduce the over-exposed look.

This time the girl kept her head. I'm not sure if that is an advantage to the overall impression of the picture.

The crop makes these 2 completely different shots. Personally, I like the first one far better. b

A very fine street photo, I like that the contrast is harsh. And B&W has always worked great for Street Photography.
I like that there is DOF to see a lot, I don’t know if that is normal in Street shooting, to use a smaller aperture.
Great work, looking forward to future images.

I found the first version more interesting. Funny panorama wide angle shot
