A series on canola....
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 07-19-2007, 08:24 PM

We have had very warm, humid and hazy days and the canola bloom is not going to last much longer. So this morning I went out and took a few pictures anyway, the sky was not what I was looking for but unless the weather changes in the next few days this will be it for this year:

Let me know what you think, comments are always welcome.

Heinrich

Wow... that is a lot of flowers! Great shots Heinrich and I hope you don't have allergies because that would totally make a man fall to his knees if they did.
Thank you Chris and no, no allergies. Take care,

Heinrich

Hi Heinrich, Those fields are really beautiful in bloom I like the second and third with the flowers up close in the foreground and the fields behind. Now I know where the canola oil comes from!(don't let the bees in your car)
Hi Tom and thank you for looking and commenting. Take care,

All winners as usual Heinrich. You certainly have an eye for photography. Two and three are my favorites. Those are mighty fine compositions.
Thank you for the kind words, it is appreciated.

Take care, Heinrich

Hi Heinrich,

Well, you have finally (I assume) answered the question that has haunted my for so many years. I know that olive oil comes from olives, corn oil from corn, grape seed oil from grapes and, of course, motor oil from motors ().

But I always wondered what the heck canola oil was made from.

I will assume.... from the seeds of these yellow flowers.

Thanks for fulfilling the proverb that... you can learn something new every day. Even if one is too lazy to look it up after all these years...

Hi Stephen and thank you for commenting. You are right of course that one can learn something new every day, I just learned something about motor oil. :-) LOL

Yellow fields are abound this time of year - great series as usual.

Perhaps I will get out to Leduc today and take a shot of Leduc #1 and try to dispell the mystery of where motor oil comes from ...ummm then there is Baby Oil..................

A delightful series, as usual for you. Canola is both pretty and interesting; currently, my colleagues and I are working on converting the oils of these and other seed oil plants into useful materials. Utility from beauty - a pretty good deal if we can pull it off.
