Very nice shots, the colors really are great. The only thing that bothers me is the focus is a tad off on some but they are still great shots none the less.

Thanks for sharing!

I agree with that. I think I need to take the focus lock off and leave it on continuous, I am moving some when after I get the magic beeb! It could also be the stock 18-55 lens also. I am getting 2 new lenses later this week, so I hope that will solve some of that.

Yea I would put it on continuous focus, that should help things out. What lenses are you getting?

I am getting the Tamron 70-200 2.8 (Model# AF001) and the Tamron 18-200 3.5 (Model # AF014). I played with both of Sigma and Tamron version at Precision Camera in Austin. And in some of the reviews, the Tamron beat the Sigma in some areas. You read that the Tamron is "slower" to focus, and noisy. I have the kit lens and a sigma 70-200 that I bought. They are slow and noisy. Both of these lenses were really quick to focus, and Tamron was 100 dollars less for each lens. I will be able to buy filters with the extra 200 dollars.

I could be wrong but apart from being slightly out of focus there seems to be some noise in the photos especially the first one. What setting are you using on the camera?

You're going to absolutely love the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8.

I am slightly ashamed of this, but I made copies of the originals, and edited them in Picasa, and re-sized these in Windows pant. here is the EXIF Data for the original. I use Corel Photo shop X2 for most of the work.

Pentax Kx
Manual Exposure mode
Exposure bias F/1.0
Sharpness- set to soft
Exposure time 1/125 sec.
F number 8
Focal length 55- ( this is a 18-55 lens)
No flash
ISO 200
Metering mode Pattern

Since I have only been doing this for about 3 months, Correct me if I am wrong, but the 1 issue I used the lens at it's full focal lenght. I should have used it as close 18 as possible.

Also I should have used a tripod with this- But the flowers were on a tree hanging off the edge of 150 foot cliff. So that was a no-go for that.

Any help you can give me would be great. This is a major learning curve here. Thanks to all who have written!

I too think the focus is slightly off. The first one has nice colors and lighting but still just a little bit soft. Certainly the best of the lot IMO it's a nice picture. I think I would kick up the in camera sharpness a notch. If you used F8 I would think your depth of field would be deeper. 125th/sec should be fast enough for these kinds of shots. seems likely you used a much slower speed for the river shot

Was the waterfall taken in Killeen, out by Stillhouse, or on Ft Hood? It looks familiar.
