This is so cool! I need to learn how to do this, could you post some kind of tutorial on setting it all up and stuff? I think M&Ms might be a great subject for this.

Very cool shot! The colors look great and the little circles really add a cool look to the image. Could you show us what you were using to make this shot?

Okay, here's the project for you:

Here are things you'll need to do this project:

The clear cover from a CD Case

Water bottle and an eyedropper

A sheet of opaque white light cardboard to cut a strip approximately 3 to 3.5 inches high and make a cylinder approximately 4.5 inchesin diameter.

A dark tile or sheet of dark (ie Black) board to put the cylinder on.

Smarties, M & M's or similar to put inside the cylinder as shown in photo

Camera and Tripod, I used my Sigma Macro lens but other lenses should be okay.

A student lamp of some type for lighting, you can try different lighting.

You can try different things inside the cylinder to get different effects. This can be quite a fun experiment that I'm sure will create some startling results.

Place the CD Case cover over the cylinder once you've put inside whatever objects you've decided to use. With the eyedropper place quite a few droplets of water on the CD Case, do this carefully so you get good round shapes in the drops of water.

When focusing with the camera focus on the drops of water not the objects inside the cylinder and this will create sharp images within the drops while the objects in the cylinder are blurred. A bit of practice will give you great shots and you'll have fun while doing the project. BTW The smarties or M & M's will not go to waste!!

If you wish to get plumper fuller drops just add some Glycerol (Glycerine) to the water.

As I said, you can use just about anything of interest to create interesting effects with this method. In this shot I added my Royal Australian Engineer's hat badge to the mix.
