Breaking Balloons
Camera: K7 ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 2s Aperture: F8
Posted By: Workingdog, 04-15-2010, 07:32 PM

Second attempt at breaking balloons. These shots are improved from my first try. I reduced the flash duration so they are much more sharp. I want to get pictures earlier in the event but my sound trigger is already wired for zero delay and yet it's not fast enough. So, I'm looking for a pellet gun so that the sound trigger will fire the flash when it hears the gun go off. I can dial in delay from there to get what I want. Stay tuned for round 3.

These shots are very cool and you are doing a great job in capturing them. You mentioned that you have your camera hooked up to a sound trigger. Is this something that you can buy or did you make it yourself?

Thanks again for sharing,
Cory

Cory,

I built the trigger from a kit purchased here:
HiViz.com: Learn High Speed Photography

The instructions that come with the kit are not detailed but luckily if you go to the website there are step by step instructions with photos showing where to place the various components. I bought the sound trigger with delay kit for just under 20 bucks and feel I've already got my money's worth.

One more thing. In my case the output from the sound trigger is going to a Cactus V4 radio transmitter to fire the flash wirelessly but you can also connect directly to the flash with a PC cable.

Bill

Thanks Bill for the link, that looks like a really neat setup. I have been trying to capture quick shots like this with the burst mode on the K20D but the photos are only like 2 megapixels and it is difficult to use any of them.

Hopefully I can pick up this kit soon as it looks very promising.

Thanks again,Cory
