what type hawk is this?

I was out at the boundary bay airport the other day, and snapped these photos of this hawk, what kind is it? if anyone in the lower mainland wants an easy spot to see a good grouping of eagles and hawks, at boundary bay Ive seen up to 20 eagles in a day.

likely a Northern Harrier.

good shots but a little distant for positive ID

I concur. The facial markings are definitely those of a Northern Harrier.

I will also agree that this is a Northern Harrier hawk. We have quite a few of them around the southern Ohio area and they are really fun to watch. I actually tried to photograph one recently with no success, they are very difficult to capture on camera and you did very well here.

It looks like a Northern Harrier to me too...they can be tough to get a shot of cause they are tough to get close to

thanks for the id folks. interesting to watch him as he was after somethin on the ground. pretty impressive how manouverable they are.
