eating deer, by the lake
Posted By: little laker, 07-24-2007, 09:33 PM

I was fishing yesterday, and saw a little brown spot on the shore. It looked a little like this

I realized that it was a deer, and only had a 50mmF2 on the time, so I snapped the pic just in case she moved on.

I then put my Sigma 135-400 on, and got these pic's.... Sorry about them not being the best, but you know how it is on a moving boat.

This looks tasty

It Is, It Is Tasty

the cropped version

Now to finish it off with desert

Oh someones photographing me so I'd better move on

Nice series of shots Stu. Colours look a little dark/subdued. Don't know if that's the pics or my monitor (still struggling to improve calibration). I chickened out of taking my slr on a canoe when I was on the river with my daughter at Nelson. A wasted opportunity as we saw a muskrat and a mink. As you have demonstrated there are so many wonderful opportunities to photograph wildlife from the water. Will have to overcome my phobia about the camera becoming an underwater camera. It was my first time in a canoe though.

Paul

PS: Reading the caption I thought I was going to see you eating lunch by the lake.

Right place , right time , right skill set once again Stu - nice shots. I know the deer are very timid and the constant click of you K100D eventaully made its way accross the lake and the caption on the last one is spot on !

Thanks everyone, I just got lucky again.

And Paul, please don't calibrate your monitor with these pic's.
my exposer was off a little this time
Since they still looked pretty good I didn't try correcting it.

Nice bonus to a fishing trip! Good shootin'!

I love eating deer; by the lake, on the patio, in the dining room - just about anywhere.

I love all of God's little creatures - and there is a place for each of them in my freezer!

I guess that I could have named the thread better

It's still better than what I called it on my flyfishing forum.
I called it
"A brown spot on the shores of Jewel Lake"

However they give me a post description box where I wrote down "photographs"

Well, I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this when I read the caption. (they are especially tasty in stew )

Anyway, it is always nice to shoot these little critters without having to actually kill them. Nice shots.

Me too. I especially like them in jerky and red chili, but I only like to shoot them with a camera. My killing days are over.

Good series.

Here are some pictures of me on a canoe trip on flatwater, and the rig I used. The Camera stayed in the tripod while paddling, and was taken off to shoot mostly. This worked pretty well. On flat water I would not hesitate to take my camera with this rig, on moving rivers and streams, I would take a trip and scout out the difficulty first ... I don't want an impromptu scuba diving trip!

P.S. These where taken by my wife with her little Sony P&S.

Note the dry bag in front of the tripod ... that's where the camera started and ended the trip!

If I can afford it I'd like to get a underwater 35mm camera for next years activities.
Although I don't think that Pentax made any, so I might not be brand loyal when it comes to that.

Stu, Now viewing photos at 11.05 pm in a darkened room with only a side light and exposure, colours and contrast all look great.

Thanks Paul,
It's really just a little underexposed.

The grass isn't that green here, and the deers coat isn't quite that rich looking.
You can sure see why I chose to keep it like that
