They are called red wing black bird and we have a few of these around a pond where I usually take my daily walk, and I have taken quite a few shots of them. Unfortunately, most of them aren't good at all as they don't stay still for long.

I have been trying to get pics of those red winged blackbirds forever! I can't wait to get my 55-300 and I should be able to do it with ease. They are all over at the lake I fish...they don't seem to be too worried about me when I walk by them with my fishing gear but I tried a few days ago to get close enough with my camera and they freak out and fly away

Good series Scott.

I have a heck of a time with the Red Wing Black bird as well as the Northern Cardinal. Neither sits still for long and metering seems to be an issue. The deep reds and blacks are tough for me to get just right.
