DarkPrince - I like the star trail shot :-)

This lens works great for architecture, city shots, landscapes or just getting up close. I also find it especially good when a shot has strong lines disappearing into the distance (as my shot of underground below). It really gives the impression of pushing things further away.

I joined the club today. Picked up my new 10-24 Tamron, wih a bonus 77mm Cokin skylight filter. Now I'm off on holiday tomorrow to try it out. Because I'm going overseas I can also claim my GST (10%) back for a further nice discount.
It was touch and go, I almost bought the Sigma 10-20 but Tamron was slightly cheaper, and has served me well in he past, and besides the free filter was like a $70.00 discount.

I'll be joining the club very shortly once the lens arrives

edit - had a problem with the sale and found a great deal on a 12-24, so i'll be hanging out over there.

A few shots from my new Tamron 10-24

I told you I was going on a holiday the day after picking up my new 10-24. So far I like it a lot, the zoom is a bit stiff and a tiny bit rough on the wide end, I but I guess that will free up with a bit more use. Here are a few shots taken with my Kr. Taken on board the P&O Pacific Dawn in the South Pacific. This thing is just fantastic for interior shots as well as landscapes. The onboard shot was 10mm wide open, the sunset at 24 mm.

Here are a couple of recent ones with my 10-24. The first one was taken tonight maybe 90 minutes ago.

A passing storm under-lit by a neighboring city.

Here's a sunrise from June 28th at 5:30 in the morning :P

Sunrise over Lake Comus

And one from the world Pentax Day stuff

And I tried to get an interesting shot of a hay or wheat field around here but I just couldn't get it to look quite right.

Can I ask a question here?

What causes lens distortion with this lens? Shooting at 10mm I get some distortion depending on a lot of various factors.

Anyone care to help me understand how to make the most of my newest addition?

USE it! Use it until you understand what it looks like through that lens and it makes you want to shoot that view.

Maybe it'll make sense to you, maybe not. I've never really been able to pre-visualize the view through anything shorter than about 28mm (FF) and finally just concentrated on what made sense to me. (To me, a FF 85mm was 'normal' on 35mm film.)

I've had, an' sold, both the Sigma 10-20 and the Tamron 10-24 because they weren't 'natural' to me. Some of us are naturally wide, an' some are inclined toward the long stuff. Don't fight a loosing battle.

A typical forum question "I'm going on vacation, what lens should I buy?" The Tamron 10-24 is the answer.

I've been trying to get a few more sunrise and sunset shots with the 10-24, here's a few so far.

ISO100 24mm f/7.1 1/4000

ISO100 12.5mm f/14.0 1/4

ISO100 10mm f/10 1/200

And here's a random one that I was trying to do a shot I've been thinking about at work while it was slow. I couldn't quite get it to work out like I thought it would in my mind.

ISO100 10mm f/11 10.0sec
