Well the weather has been better today so I was out and about at the local Cops and Rodders show.

I think I might be in love with this lens. My poor Sigma 10-20mm feels neglected

"Lying on the Forest's Floor" is one of the most arresting shots in this genre I've seen. The Sigma 8-16 moves up another notch on my too-long wish list.

Trig, apart from the extra 2mm at the short end, is there anything else about the 8-16 that makes you prefer it to the 10-20? Do you ever miss the last 4mm of the 10-20? As a 10-20 owner, I find I usually shoot at 10mm or close to it, but there are times I'm reaching towards the upper end.

My understanding is you cannot use a polarizer with the 8-16, is that so? I paid $200 for mine, combined with the $685 I paid for the 10-20, I'm a little reluctant to make the transition.

There isn't much else that puts it over the top of the 10-20mm other than the ultra-wide 8mm. Lately, I have been using this and the DA* 16-50mm so the 16mm limitation on the 8-16mm doesn't bother me. Changing lenses isn't an issue for me.

You are correct, you cannot use a filter on the 8-16mm. This doesn't bother me because I never use filters (other than for IR).

To keep this post legit. Here is another one from the same day as the forest shot.

Can it do portraits?

This is a fun lens, but sure can test one.

Rain stopped play...

1/3200s f/4.5 ISO6400 8mm

...but not for long. Chess?

1/125s f/4.5 ISO200 8mm

...or maybe cake?

1/60s f/8.0 ISO6400 16mm

I am interested in your thoughts

As you did with the last two, an ultrawide portrait is best with a significant object in the foreground. Compositionally, the chessboard photo is best.

Been missing for quite some time. Ha . Grab a Tour package by Insing.com to Bintan Island . Brought my wife along but got to leave my kid with my parent . It was a short trip of 2day 1 night (1.5 day to be exact) . Didn't manage to shoot much as we miss the sunset when we arrive at the resort .

1# Kick start with one of my fav photo for the trip . It was a big rock located just 200m walk away from my room . Morning 4.30am (indo time) , wake up and prepare for sunrise . I guess the local will sure find us crazy for waking up so early and enter the water. Manage to find this Rock isolated from the others and decided to take this photo. I call it

- The Bintan Big Rock -

2# Water condition at Bintan island is much better compare to Singapore ..... Compare to our changi beach , the sand ripple is much more visible

- Bintan Sand ripple-

3# I usually don't like to shoot landscape after 8am or before 6pm .... But sometime I am left with no choice ....

However the cloud is pretty interesting ... Anyone spot the dragon ?

-The dragon cloud -

4# -Small fisherman Jetty beside cabana resort-

5# -The light house of fisherman village - Trying a post process long exposer effect in 4:3 ratio

Guys one question for you that own that lens.. How annoying is the fact that you can't see the 8 and 9 mm at the exif and also not able to auto correct on lightroom for example.. Also does this creates any issues with SR?? Thanks in advance..
