I have had this lens on order from B&H for several weeks. It was supposedly backordered. Yesterday I received the cancellation of the order with the information that this lens is being discontinued by Sigma. I haven't confirmed this with Sigma; someone might want to do this. I assume they are only discontinuing the Pentax mount version. Grrrr! (Grabbed one off of Amazon, supposedly, but was hoping to have access to several in case I got a bad sample!)

well I think I have found a solution to the problem of using filters with the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6

By rummaging through boxes of loose assorted filters I managed to uncover a set of Tamron 30.5mm ND2X~8X filters that fit perfectly over the rear element of the Sigma 8-16mm* I attached this one using strong double sided tape. I have done some tests to confirm that it has no impact on the operation of my cameras, I'm aware of how little clearance there is in a pentax camera mirror box. But when I test this setup tomorrow hopefully there won't be any significant vignetting.

* these apparently belonged to a mirror lens, but I don't recall anyone in my family having ever owned one which makes the origin of these filters a rather curious thing.

I suppose thats why we can't have a light weight pocketable 6 - 1000 mm f/0.95

Thanks everyone for such amazing pics... I'll buy my 8-16 tomorrow and ...can't wait ! Already had the 10-20 and the 12-24 but i need the extra 2mm for indoors photography.
Anyway, as i have a K-01 IR converted (665nm) i would like to know if anyone already tried the 8-16 in IR ?? I fear the hotspot issue...
Thanks again, i'll go to Japan in august and i imagine this lens to be on my K-5 90 % of the time !

I predict that hot-spotting will be rather problematic with a lens like this, Sigma coatings aren't that great at handling visible light as it is. Even the DA15mm f/4 can have considerable problems with flare and hot spots when used for IR.

You're right. I had some issues with the 10-20 sigma (but less than the Pentax 12-24 DA !). I can confirm that the 31mm FA 1.8 is amazing in IR ! You could barrely see a hotspot at f13 !

But it would be awesome to have a 8mm landscape avoiding hotspots issues...
