Excellent use of such a wide angle.

Well, I had rented my 8-16 for a month place had one on the shelf but no real Pentax shooters in the area who wander into the shop so I asked if I could rent it with the idea of buying if I liked it. I made the offer to cover any decrease in value from my using the lens plus a modest rental fee if I choose not to buy. To my surprise they guy was happy to agree.

Annnnd...I did not make it even the whole month before deciding I had to buy. I took to it more than I did the 10-20 when I had a copy of that lens. Haven't had time to shoot something more interesting than already posted in this thread but I will be using it a lot over then next 6-weeks. Heading up to Cambria next week, I think hope to grab some sunsets and coastal shots if the weather cooperates.

This lens fits my kit very well.

BTW, what is the reason the Pentax bodies do not report anything under 10mm? I am assuming it's firmware related but whose exactly? Sigma? Pentax? RIcoh could do us loyalists a nice thing and make it happen. I don't have the discipline to make notes on the zoom setting from shot to shot. I guess I will need to keep a notebook with me to do just that as I see now reason Ricoh will release another FW update for the K5.

hahahaha...I hear ya. I just like to fiddle with my shoot stats when bored. I have noticed I actually use the whole range with the 8-16mm. When I used the 10-20 it was 10-12, 15 and 20mm. never 13, 14, 16-19. I know about claiming people shoot at the extreme ends of their zooms more often. I can see it as possible but has never been for me. It was my shot distribution with the 10-20 which let me see almost immediately that the 8-16mm would likely fit me really well. So far so good.

I'm saving now for a Cokin or that other filter rig with a few ND filters including a 10-stop. Living on the coast I enjoy taking long exposures of tidal areas or just rocky place on the coast. But the silly thing is spendy whatever brand one buys. Toss in a CPL (shooting water often cutting the glare/reflections really makes a difference at times) and I am eating lots of roadkill surprise for a while.

I'm not dissing discipline, btw, it's just never been my strong suit. I think in my case the stats would show that I favor the long end of my long zooms but the short end of this one.

nice Nick....that is a very realistic rendering to my eye. I can feel the fresh sea air and wind....that is something I don't sense in so many HDR shots. There is a disconnect even if I do like the rendering. But your shot here really works for me.

Out of curiosity did you do a version where you open the shadows just a bit? Or does that, even if using a graduated filter tool, change the feel of the shot too much?
