And the aircraft photos are pretty dazzling as well.

it is only really usable at 16mm, with some corner fall off without crop mode on.
Thanks for that

WPRESTO thanks. It didn’t take me as long to compose the post as it did to write the original article. I ended up being a little rushed on the article so it’s not my best work.
MRCDH you’re welcome. I like to be thorough when I study something and accurate when I pass that information on to others. This is one of those subjects like white balance or depth of field that many think they understand but more likely than not misunderstand.

Thank you Arjay Bee. You had me confused for a moment because I didn’t remember posting any aircraft photos. Then it occurred to me you must’ve come back and looked at my photo stream.

But, allowing you'd get a circular image if used @ 8mm on FF, if you shot @ f16, then in PP you might be able to crop out a pseudo-panorama that covered a bit more horizontally than you would have obtained had the lens been mounted on an APS-C camera, again depending on your tolerance for dimming and IQ degradation as you you approach the edge of the image circle. No doubt some (many?) Pentaxians who purchase a K1 and have an ultra-wide will experiment and post the result.
There are a few examples of the 8-16mm on an A900 here:

Sigma ultrawide zooms – old and new 12-24s versus 8-16mm

That's really interesting. Wonder if Sigma will offer their new 12~24mm in K-mount. The cropped image from the 8~16 on full-frame certain has IQ competitive with the two full-frame zooms.

topic drift...Did any of you folks come up with a cheap polariser solution ?
(yep I know cheap is unlikely and have read the standard solutions)

Also. One immediately wonders about the original version of Sigma's 10~20mm which had a removable hood. Maybe now I'll be sorry I let mine go to another Pentaxian.

Sigma 8-16 Arrived_Early Results Exceeded My Expectations_Well Worth the Month Wait!!

My initial impression and review of the Sigma 8-16mm, succinctly put WOW!! I plan to go to Sedona, AZ this weekend to capture some of the beauty of that area and give the lens a test. In reading about the wide angle lens three suggestions frequently appear (1) have a primary subject/theme of the photo to draw the viewers eye into the photo; 2) get close to the subject of the theme; 3) use leading/converging lines where possible. Furthermore, the hyperfocal distance will be about 3 to 4 feet into the picture. My first impressions of the Sigma 8-16mm is that it will be a fun lens that delivers superb quality and sharpness throughout the zoom range. I have heard it said that photography is about having fun creating and capturing images and this lens certainly gives the impression that it will deliver tons of fun.
I purchased the lens through Amazon and the price for a new lens was $524, which is quite reasonable since I have seen $700 give or take from a number of other sources.

Dadipentak, thanks for your response and corroborating my impressions. I will post some pictures soon as evidence of what I and others have said about this unique lens.

I have been watching this thread quietly for a long time now admiring all the photos. I have been battling it out with the UWAs for awhile now. I got a Sigma 10-20 and although it was a very nice lens I decided I needed the extra FOV so back it went. So last week I saw a brand new 8-16 on Amazon for $520 US fulfilled by Amazon with Prime shipping. I have had a Prime account since they came out. So two days later it was here and the battle of the UWAs was over. The 8-16 won. So far I have been impressed with it. It is not as big as I thought it would be. The 10-20 3.5 is huge. It is definitely going to take some getting used to. So much area in one image. I was out for a drive this weekend enjoying the weather so I tried it out on some landscapes. Later this week I am going downtown to shoot some of the buildings and architecture.
Here are some of the shots from this weekend. I did not bother with my tripod so they are all hand held.

8mm I could not keep my shadow out of this one. The sun was behind me.

So far it seems I got a good copy and I will not need to send it back. I hope not since this was the only copy they had.

Lugged the 8-16 around almost all week in Skye last week. It was the only way to get some of the massive landscapes in the frame!

Will post a few more next few days.

Very nice. I like the placement of the point and how the path guides the eye there. The man in the blue jacket gives perspective on scale. Well done!
