Ice/water drops on a window during a recent snowstorm. All DFA 100 WR, handheld. First two are focus stacks. Cross posted to DFA WR Club.

This is a scan from a chrome probably taken in the 1990's, and probably taken with a 200mm SMCA macro (I might have been using the Tokina macro), but the scan has degraded IQ.. The hoarfrost forms on exceptionally still, cold mornings where there is an outflow from the bottom of a huge nearby reservoir. The water is relatively warm (about 4C, 38F), it evaporates into the cold dry air (sometimes mist can be seen rising from it) and refreezes into these dainty ice sheets. The slightest breeze, exhaling if your face is close or stirring a breeze by moving an arm too quickly will cause the gossamer frost to disintegrate into a little white puff. Back lighting shows it best.

I have been trying the DFA 100mm Macro on the K50 since I have the Tamron 70-200 Macro on the K3. So far I have been very pleased.

The K50 and DFA 100mm Macro. I think you could stick that DFA 100 on a cell phone and still get great shots.

A couple of Tamron SP Di 90mm 1:2.8 Macro 1:1 handhelds (cropped)

The first one is a spider small enough to sit on a Pencil eraser. The second one is a flower about 2" wide. And the 3rd one is just some old tree moss. I haven't posted for quite awhile and figured I'd better throw something in here so you all didn't think I went all Nikon or something. These were done with my new K-3.

Wow well done, especially on the weevils, your self made diffuser seems to do a great job! would you mind sharing how it's done ?
Also what are the exposure settings? DOF is great...
thanks

Thanks for the compliment.

A photo is the easiest way to explain it.

Camera settings:
f/19 - 1/125sec - 50mm - iso100 - flash
manual exposure - centrum weighted

More of a snoot than a diffuser: that is, you're concentrating, rather than diffusing, the light from the flash--right?

That snoot brings the light from the pop-up flash over the lens to the subject.
The snoot ends with a diffuser 9 x 8 cm.
I use more snoots adapted to the lenght of the lens combination.
