Technically, they are not spiders despite the eight legs. They belong in a group called Opiliones. The obvious distinctions from spiders: 1) a globular or near spherical body that does not have a distinct two-part structure (spiders have a smaller forward head & legs structure called the cephalothorax, and a larger bulbous rear abdomen); 2) they do not have fangs or poison glands; 3) they do not have silk-making organs so no webs. They may be called "daddy long legs" or "harvestmen." There is a very common true spider that also has very long legs and is sometimes called a "daddy long legs" or a "cellar spider."

Goldenrod is blooming here, so that means lots of different insects on one easy to find plant. It's a regular traffic jam!

A leafhopper:

A big freakin' wasp or hornet thingy:

An ant and (part of) a fly:

Same leafhopper with some small hornet or wasp thingy.

A tiny beetle:

100% crop:

All with the Sigma 70mm f2.8 with Pringles tin diffuser/extender on built-in flash.

That 100% crop is incredibly sharp - well done.
