Wen I look out the window I only see tall pines and a whole bunch of white cold stuff. Nice picture, though.

Frost

I was fascinated by the frost this morning and that called for some macro shots. These were taken with the K-1 and D FA 100 WR, natural light, hand held. I'm very happy with that camera / lens combo.

I'll put an amen on that praise. I used to go out on bitterly cold, breathlessly still mornings during the film era to a spot* where I knew such crystals formed, but I never captured an image as good as the second one poster above. All that suffering on my part to get mediocre images.

*Outflow through a dike at a nearby reservoir. Warm water from below the ice vaporizes then freezes into such crystals on all the branches near the opening of the drain. Reliable spot to find such formations.

Fantastic captures. I was thinking to post some of my crystal captures, but seeing these made mine look so bad I decided not to post! Gotta try again. :>)
