Thanks. Much appreciated. I was a little worried if the almost electric colors could be reproduced with enough subtlety to look correct. Pentax handled it with ease.

Thanks,

Yes, that's always an issue. I've tried to photograph some art installations a few days ago and the lights came out quite psychedelic. Not sure how to deal with this in post.

You could post one of the pictures in the digital processing section and ask for assistance. They know how to do amazing things with post processing. There's also moderator texandrews. He works at museums reproducing art. Great guy and always willing to help.

Thanks,

Venus 100mm F2.8 2x Macro

Here are my first two test stacks using the new Venus 100mm Macro with 2x using available light in the room at f2.8. They show the relative increase in magnification from 1x to 2x, not the sharpness possible with the lens.

The first image shows the orchid with its center at 1x, and at 2x. This gives an idea of the increase in magnification at from 1x to 2x. Image comparison done with Faststone Image Viewer. Each panel shows the corresponding image at 23%.

The second image is an actual pixel crop at 2x. The crop is not the sharpest as exposure was 30 seconds for each frame of the stack, and I used a manual advance macro rail. I struggle to get enough slices at 1x.

I notice over the years that even plants are in constant motion, and a stack that takes too long will likely suffer alignment/focus issues. A well diffused flash will produce the best result.

Playing catch up this evening and saw your nice Mantis.

My image is "Mantis in Progress."

We planted late beets, and harvested them in October. While preparing the greens for supper, Mom found this egg case in the greens. I'll put them to work in the garden and around the house this spring.

The egg case is a little longer than an inch. I wish I had seen the female that produced it. Would not be surprised if a male or two helped to fund the building project!

Focus stack.

I bought a Laowa 25mm 2.5x-5x macro lens last year, decided to see what I could do with it.
This is 7 Pixelshifted shots of part of an Invicta watch focus merged in Affinity Photo.
Details:
Pentax K-1
Laowa 25mm Macro @ 2.5x
ISO 800
5 sec exposure

Wow, that's amazing detail. What's the f-number of that lens, given that you need 5 second exposures at 800 ISO?

It's an F/2.8 lens, but that was shot at F/8.

This is the lens I used:

Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro – LAOWA Camera Lenses

Sorry. I thought you were using the probe lens.

Thanks, that's an impressively affordable lens. How do you like it in terms of usability and durability (the extending barrels worry me a bit)?

I like it. You don't have a focusing ring on the lens, so you have to focus by moving the lens in and out. I use a manual macro rail that lets me do that pretty easily.

For the price and the quality it can't be beat.

OK, that sounds great and it looks as if I've found myself a new birthday gift!

That's what I did. I bought it as a birthday gift to myself.

I decommissioned a few server hard drives today, some of the parts looked interesting.
