Never ever get closeup filters. They are horrible and you will do much better blowing it up in Photoshop anyways.
A reversed 50 on the other hand.....
And how many you need? Lol
I lost count of my 50s...At least 8 I think..
Good point about the reversed 50s. I even have some reversing rings which I have played around with briefly in the past, but I need to play with them more to get the technique right.

Anyway, I suppose one more 50 couldn't hurt...

Both should be excellent!

I recently acquired a K50/4 1:2 Macro that I plan to use for this thread. My theory is, for what I paid, if I don't like it I can just remarket it on the Marketplace. Worst case I'm out a few bucks, which is sort of like "renting" the lens.
Looking forward to seeing some images from this lens!

Hear hear. I have the S-M-C Takumar version (optically the same), and it is both my sharpest (or as sharp as any other of my lenses) and my favorite lens. Great colors, contrast, and even bokeh (at close distances). Even as a macro lens, I recommend it (note I also have the Vivitar Series 1 90mm macro, Tamron AF 90mm f2.8 macro, Vivitar Series 1 105mm macro, and Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro, but the humble MacTak is my favorite) If you want, see my review for the Takumar version. For the price it goes for (and how nice and compact it is with the shaded front element), I too think it is the hidden gem of the entire Pentax lens lineup
Thanks for the comment! I'll take another look and see about picking up the M50/4, and see what the macro Taks are going for.

SMC Macro Takumar 50mm f4

I'm enjoying this lens. Not fast, but sharp for macro and way sharp for a landscape. It's definitely my sharpest lens in my collection.

I was wondering when you were going to chime in Tanner.
Very nice work as usual.

Good one as also from you Clou - so sharp and detailed.

I was just watching the thread from afar

The most expensive lens I own is the $380 sigma 105mm macro..... and it so happens I use a BROKEN M 50mm F/1.7 that cost me $30 vastly more. The sigma is useless to me now that I have the F 135mm... unless I have an oddball job like small product photography or water droplets. To bad I never do those

I would have thought your K50/1.2 would have costed more.
But the F 135 is no macro lens... so you just stick with the reversed lens setup now for your macros?

Nope, the K 50mm F/1.2 actually cost me less than the now sold FA 50mm F/1.4...... $222 WITH a ME Super

The F 135mm does just fine for macro:

(stacked 50mm iirc )

But yes, reversed on extension tubes 100% now

Indeed. Alas, I owe so many threads so many images that it might not be immediate. I don't have a stock of images saved to just post up - I have to go out and take pictures.

I have TMAX and Tri-X in the crisper (and some color print film)

Famous last words.... I remember thinking the same thing when I bought my S-M-C Macro-Takumar 50mm f4, but I ended up loving it so much that I had to get the 1:1 Macro-Takumar version. Now I am even considering whether I should pick up the M version if I can get a killer deal
On the concept of selling if I don't like the K50/4 . . .

That's just talk. What IS it about these lenses?
