What the h*ll is that--looks like you are getting the Easter grass out early this year.

Ash That's a tiny subject JT, and kudos for flattening its plane perpendicular to the lens axis to get that sharpness throughout at f/6.3

Heleborus

I'm getting acquainted with A*200 and being reminded again that this sort of photography requires that you pay attention to everything.

Heleborus is a nice plant, btw.

Got my new K5 yesterday and I have been trying various odd new stuff that I bought while waiting for it.
I have just been putting on different new lenses and running back and forth to the balcony to take testshots.
This is one of them with my Kiron 105mm f2.8 + a Promaster Spectrum Teleconverter x2 and Im surprised over this combination. I bought the weird Promaster thing because it had PK/A mount and was about 50mm long. My plan was to strip the glass but now Im not so sure. it seems to work pretty well as a macro multiplier. I also tested it with some other lenses and I think its the best TC I have tried.
Anyways. This is with the Kiron at full mag, 2:1 handheld with flash.
Some minor PP in LR and downsized to 1024.
I like it even though its quite weird.

The Kiron 105 is a great lens. And that's a nicely sharp capture with the 2x TC.
Congrats on going with the K-5 aliasant.
I'm sure it'll make your handheld macro work significantly easier.

Vivitar S1 90.

I was contemplating on PP enhancing this image further, but later found out that it has a certain appeal to what it already is. I guess I just prefer how the lens rendered this image.

Good call, Pentaxor! Sometimes I find myself going through pp by habit and have to to step back and ask what it is that really needs doing.

Thanx guys.
That Kiron actually works well with the Tokina Macro Extender as well.
Ill see if I can get some macros soon with both the Tokina and the Kiron but I did test that Macro Extender and it really doesnt change the stops when used.
It does however make the Tokina loose infinity completely. It actually starts at Macro 1:2 with the extender (were it ends without it) and then goes to 1:1.
Actually this solution might work better then the Kiron since it doesnt have to compensate the optics to reach infinity as well as 1:1. Will be an interesting season for sure.

Pentaxor: Nice desicion Very nice shot. Would it be possible to see a 100% center crop or similar?

Testing the Tokina AT-X 90mm f2.5 with its dedicated Macro Extender.

Heres is one shot taken at 1:1 with flash @ f9
Full frame and 100% crop. No sharpness or anything added.
Focus isnt perfect but ok.

Heres a comparison between the Kiron 105 f2.8 Macro at 1:1 and the Bokina with its Macro Extender + a 2x teleconverter but the Bokina is set to 1:2 so with the tele its the same as the Kiron, 1:1.
If I pixelpeep the Kiron is sharper but its DOF is much more shallow. Not sure if that is because of the TC used with the Bokina. I like the Bokina shot better. It has nicer colors and better DOF.

Kiron 1:1

Bokina + ME + TC 1:1
