It's definitely a possibility on this one Digitalis, It was over exposed rather than slightly underexposed as normal, due to me having the flash on (in already bright sunlight).
I find that setting the flash 1 1/2 stops below ambient light gives a decent fill ratio - without the flash becoming too obvious. However the addition of a polariser would have helped that image - because it would have allowed the flash to overpower the ambient light and create a stronger image - not to mention increase the saturation of the sky and remove or enhance specular reflections from the tulip.

Flash Photography is difficult - not everyone has the eye for how to use lighting effectively, but the only way to become good at it really is to practice and observe the work of others - and try to guess how they lit the subject.

It should be easy to guess how I lit this image, I used one flash and one reflector.

only if you intend to do it well :~) For me, it's pretty much a last resort and--once in a while--I get lucky. I admire those of you who have really mastered it.

I am a strong adherent of the saying "keep it simple stupid" and often the most effective lighting techniques are incredibly simple. In the case of the tulip photograph I placed the flash below the flower and placed a reflector directly above the flower - since the light that bounces off a reflector is only half as strong as the light source itself you get an automatic 1:2 ratio. The light from the flash illuminated the petals while the bounced light from the reflector illuminated the interior of the flower - as I said incredibly simple, but also very effective.

Hi iittoo.

Mine does wobble a bit. Perhaps half a mm in each direction. Same amount if the barrel is fully extended as in fully retracted.

Some CZJ Pancolar 50 1.8 MC on extension tubes and light from my Sigma 610 ST with hand made from paper soft box.

And some with natural light and KMZ Zenitar-M 50 1.7 on extension tubes again.
