I am impressed with this lens. It is up there with the Bokina and Vivitar 100mm f2.8 Macro.

I saw the fly covered in dew yesterday morning and decided to grab my SMC FA Macro 50mm and take some shots. While I was out, I also snapped a few other critters.

Flash is the 540FGZ bounced with the built in white card.
Very nice, indeed DC Shooter. Very good composition & detail, especially on #3.

I have a pristine Vivitar 2X "Matched Multiplier" but have yet to acquire the matching lens for it, a 75-205mm. In the owner's pamphlet, it says "The lens macro focusing ability doubles, giving you a new maximum reproduction ration of 1:2 (1/2 lifesize)." I have extension tubes and reversing rings for any serious macro work I might consider, but I thought this Vivitar combination might be interesting to try. I have a Vivitar 80-200mm macro-zoom that is an excellent lens and is very sharp, especially when close-focusing, so I have high expectations for the new set-up.

Have any of you had any experience with this combo?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Thanks for your kind comments

I have not experienced the setup you are contemplating. If the Vivitar 90mm f2.5 is anything to go by (i.e. matched multiplier for 1:1 macro performance) then I suspect the setup considered should provide good results.

The photo below is from a Vivitar 90mm f2.5 Series 1 with adapter (1:1) EDIT - photo changed to RAW version

Photo all washed out - bizzare - not the way it looks in iPhoto

Another photo - same orchid but this time with the Vivitar 100mm f2.8 Macro

Test Shots

Was interested to see how the 200 performs with the Q, shooting a distant subject. Adapter is a inexpensive PhotodioX.

So I took a picture of the lighthouse. Note the size of the 3rd order Fresnel lens in comparison with the tourists. Actual pixel crop.

Shooting across 1/2 mile (0.8 kilometer) of water may have affected sharpness, and my technique still needs work. 1/250th second may be too slow for best sharpness. Aperture is F8.

If you want to compare the same subject taken with a 600mm combination (as much as comparison is possible with a 2 second exposure), check out my post in the 300+ club.

Highlights reduced on over exposed areas, some sharpening done, otherwise not much PP. Some CA visible.

At the other end of the spectrum is a blue surgical cotton towel photographed with the Q & 200, 1:1, at f8. Actual pixel crop. Highlights reduced, some sharpening done.

Decrease the small thumbnail of the original image to Q sensor size if you are interested in the dimension of the weave.

Does anyone else have any Macro lens with Q images to share?

Nice shots mtux. I have a question. Do you know what type of flower or plant that is with the spike? We have some growing in tropical garden and I wondered what they are called.

Thanks,
I'm sorry, but I'm no good at naming of flowers. and even some searches didn't brought anything about it.
I've seen these in several parks and places here in Malaysia, and yesterday I found one of their blooms. here is the shot:
