This is a composite of 3 shots taken with my Tamron 90mm macro. I chose it because because it's my fastest lens and has at least a bit of reach. The Oilbirds (over 100 I think) roost in a cave and head out at night to browse on fig trees up to 70 miles away. We were not permitted to use flash photography. The guide picked out the birds briefly with a flashlight, I took the pics then put them together with the Clone Stamp tool in Elements. Not perfect, but a solution to the problem!

Fun with new K-3 and DFA 50mm Macro handheld, natural lighting
Live view is awesome for flowers and such, fast and decisive viewfinder AF helped catching that nice Bee, not to mention the brightness and clarity of the viewfinder which is miles ahead of my old K200d

Signs of Spring

The bees were out in force today. The EXIF is erroneous as I had failed to plug in the correct focal length. This image was actually taken with a SMC Pentax 70-210mm lens and NOT a 50mm as indicated.

K-3 & FA 100 2.8 Macro F13 I'm trying to determine if I need a ring flash. This was taken with a Metz 44 flash.

My friend was envious of my 50mm f:2.8 macro, so....

.... I found him one on eBay for what I thought was a really good price. The lens looks pristine. I had it shipped to him and it will be there waiting for him when he gets back from his motorcycle vacation to Arizona. Excellent Pentax SMC FA 50mm F2 8 Macro F 2 8 from Japan | eBay

He really liked mine and did his best to talk me out of it, but I told him I'd find him his own! I didn't expect to find one this soon.... and especially one this nice.

K-3 & Sigma 105. Can anyone ID the bugs in the first two photos? I've seen them around a bit more recently and don't know what they are.

The 1st one is a soldier beetle (Cantharidae family,, maybe Cantharis pallida but not sure), the second one is an earthworm, but cant tell more, the 3rd one is a cave cricket (family Rhaphidophoridae) apparently...

I am very happy to have found a new copy of the Sigma 180mm macro. I used to have one that I sell a year ago (to finance my new house), and I found an excellent (not to say MINT) copy for a ridiculous price on ebay:
Sigma APO Macro 180mm F 3 5 EX DG FOR Pentax W BOX Case EXC From Japan | eBay

Stay tuned for new macro photos. The first test shots are very promising !

Here's a shot of a cereal box, handheld with the K-3, original (no PP) and at 1:1

That's a very good lens...and at a fantastic price. I payed more for mine

Why 180mm? Let them bring back the famous FA*200mm macro 1:1 as a weather proof DFA*200mm macro.
