I used a 24in circle diffuser to diffuse the harsh sunlight (around noon), and the result is incredible !

The diffuser worked well, but the sharpness is out of this world! Bravo, in every aspect, sir!

Great picture! The right gear sure makes a difference, but the skill to put everything together is what makes the shot!

It's also usable as a reflector. One of my favorite pieces of gear.

Thanks, Ray! Go a shot of a smaller one one in the same place a couple of years ago--I'm thinking it's the same snake.

Could be, but those garters are one of the most common snakes in North America. If you ever are lucky enough to come across a mating ball, you'll get a good sense of how common:
When I was a child, we had a nest of them under the stoop leading to our back door. Every so often, I would catch one - I was a lot happier with this situation than my sister and female classmates were.

Too many house spiders on the outside of our house this year. I saw one of them had captured an earwig and had to run and get my macro lens. This is handheld, with the vivitar 100/3.5 which was also branded as Pentax FA Macro 3.5; using a yongnou ring light. It's a stack of two images that happened to be close enough together that photoshop would let me stack them, with one focused more on the spider and one focused more on the earwig.

Don't Ask Me What this Creature Is

Was out a few days ago testing my newly acquired Tokina ATX 90mm f/2.5 macro, which gives a 1:2 magnification. I estimated the size of this bug, which was resting on a yellow petal, at barely 1/8 of an inch. This was taken at f/5.0 at MFD in cloudy condition.

I prefer the monochrome somehow.
