Nice! Haven't seen that variety before. Wonder what a 180mm's angle of view on this subject looks like.

A visitor to our trailer

Fiddling with the trailer, getting it ready to go to my favorite birding sites, found this charming, but ill, lady crawling on the carpet. (I did say I was getting it ready - which includes cleaning the carpet.) I saw her on the inside of the curtains while replacing a level, and fetched the K-3 and 100 macro. Both shots hand held using Catch In Focus. First at ISO 800, second at ISO 3200.

The second shot is on the paving in the carport after I lifted her out of the trailer. I think she got trapped in the trailer the day before. She certainly was dragging herself around, and made no attempt whatsoever to fly. I left her be, and have not seen her since.

The same species of 17-year cicada as the one posted above by dcshooter. It was lying dead along a trail.

K-1, Tokina AT-X 90mm f/2.5 "Bokina" w/ matched 1:1 adapter:
Nice. The AT-X 90 is one of my favorite lens although I do not have the extension adapter. I have been using it mostly for close-up but not really macro shots. Still looking for another of my favorite lenses. :>)

A 50 mm extension tube will give you 1:1 -- that's what the adapter is, after all.

Good subject for focus stacking!

Don't have images to post of the straggler, but if you are interested to know a bit more about what is believed
to trigger early emergence, this website has a lot of information about the subject and the various broods.

2012 Cicada just after it emerged

I did this stack of an annual cicada back in July, 2013 (it wast posted on PF back then). The one I posted above was in the field, far from home, hand-held on a drizzly day. Maybe I could have pulled off a stack, but holding a camera in one hand, the cicada in the other I do not think the results would have been acceptable.

Interesting.

FYI: When the Tokina 90mm macro and it's 1:1 adapter were introduced, they were tested by the photo magazines of the day. At least one found that at 1/2 life size - the maximum without the adapter and the minimum with the adapter - the resolution was actually better after the adapter was fitted (= 1:2 was better with the adapter than without).
