Aside from the details, there's very nice light on that image.

I find back lighting works well for many flowers, and is especially good for Fall color

K 3 + SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro

I tried a new technique today

I am a bob in and out type of guy

I set my dfa 100 macro on the minimum distance setting, set the " focus lock switch " [ so I get 1 : 1 ] and I do my best to move so the object is correctly in focus.

I find that I cannot hold my position all the time and I start weaving ( yes I know, a tripod would do wonders, but I am trying to learn to shoot macro in the field without one. ]

so today, I set the shutter to multiple burst and did my best.

surprisingly I was successful [ not all of them of course, but enough ]

bolt head in a bench

knot in the same bench

no crop, no pp

I'm really impressed with the quality of the macro images in this group. Well done!!!

My FA 100mm F/2.8 WR normally does all the macro 'heavy lifting' for me, but I just got this Sigma Aspherical Macro 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 II dirt cheap on Ebay. Here's a macro test image, a grungy Casio watch complete with dirt from the garden I thought I would share. For $30 this lens will do for the occasional 1::2 The watch was at an angle so the critical focus was on the 'Multiband' lettering. Tabletop support 2 secs @ F/11.0

I'll try to find some better subjects for it soon.
