The thing about going away is returning and catching-up on what's been posted. I go off for a week or two and instead of having the daily AM twenty or thirty posts to check on the threads I follow, there are several hundred. Takes days and days to go through them and post comments or praise where justified. And I feel obliged, as I hope for an occasional comment on my posts, I feel it's my responsibility to look at every posted image and comment if appropriate. In general, people fell obliged to respond-in-kind.
I know this is true. I have the same reaction and the same backlog from time to time...

I actually like the one in this last post the best. The red and black background give a great contrast to the white.

I'm jealous. LOL. I need that lens. (NEED is the intentionally wrong word here... DESIRE perhaps. WANT... sigh. But with 19+ modern K mount AF lenses I don't need it.

not sure I needed it either

HD Pentax-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR

SMC Pentax DA 21mm F3.2 Limited

Kino Precision Japan Kiron 28mm F2 MC P/KA

SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS

SMC Pentax-DA 1.8 50 mm prime

getting crowded in those focal ranges

[ although a couple of those lenses are a bit faster the Kiron at F 2.0 and the 50 at 1.8 ]

if I am not mistaken, pepperberry farm is planning on doing a review on his, although it is the HD vs. SMC, he has been working with his this month

For macro I use either Raynox, Canon, or Nikon accessory lenses or my DFA 100 WR or even some tubes or a bellows. I feel I am overly equipped in this area - and at that focal length I have the FA 35 f/2 and the FA 31 Limited... so despite the obvious quality and fun factor I hesitate to pick up one for fear I may fall in love...

What's the benefit of such a wide Macro lens? Greater depth of field?

I don't have any "modern" macro lenses, but as far as "dedicated" macro lenses, I have a few old suspects:

  • Macro-Takumar 50/4 (M42, original 1:1)
  • Super-Macro-Takumar 50/4
  • Tamron Adaptall 90/2.8mm (SP 52BB)
The Macro setting on the 60-300mm Adaptall lens (SP 23A) is pretty decent too, if you can handle the somewhat awkward size for that application.

Does anyone have one of those Mikaton? 4x macro lenses?

My own viewpoint is that the 35mm macro is mainly a more direct viewpoint replacement for the 50mm macro when used on APSC sensor cameras. It offers a normal lens perspective that happens to also offer close focus.

here's a comparison thread - one of the better I found of the many that exist:
D FA 100mm F2.8 WR Macro, or DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited? - PentaxForums.com
