Hibiscus - HD Pentax DA 35mm Limited Macro

In my view, this is the best of the DA Limited primes. It's just got too short a working distance for insects and the like. Flowers, on the other hand....

I think that is the same kind of tree-form hibiscus group plant we have in our yard that we know as "rose of Sharon." Comes in several colors.

Yes, it is Hibiscus Syriacus. We have a pair of them in cobalt blue; the variety is "Blue Bird", sometimes advertised as "Oiseau Bleu".

Ours is blue as well, M's favorite color. Locally there are white and pinkish-red varieties.

I've decided that I like taking pictures of flowers. They're attractive and don't whine and complain about having to sit still for the picture.

Yes, flowers are my primary subjects in season, and you are correct about their fairly passive behavior, though I have on occasion noticed some of my flower subjects waving in the wind.

There was a multi-frame newspaper cartoon, "Blondie" perhaps, where he gets a new camera and goes out to try his hand at wildlife photography, concentrating on local birds. Later she's looking over his shoulder as he works the images on a computer. "You took pictures of rocks?" "Yes. They're much more interesting than birds." Or something along that line. Been decades since that particular strip was published.

In the Weeping Willow

A variation on Norm's One Lens, One Walk theme, here are three images taken in the same tree with the D-FA 100 WR. One Lens, One Tree, if you will....

All are manual exposures at low ISO and small(ish) apertures, hand held, with fill-in from the camera's own flash. This can be quite harsh - a lot of highlights have to be toned down.
