Nice shots, Norm. I’d not thought of adding the F1.7xAF to my macro lenses. Having just got my 100 back with a new aperture assembly, I must try some of my own.
If it's a walk around, the TC means less bending and crawling around on your knees. And ƒ4.5 isn't bad for a macro lens.

DFA 100 Macro with the F 1.7x AF

Taking up Norm's theme of combining the DFA 100 Macro with the Pentax F 1.7x AF converter, I took a walk around our local Botanical Gardens with the combination, the other day. Serious work would require a tripod and stacked focus, but this was just intended to be a trial.

This everlasting daisy was only about 25mm across, and it was difficult to capture with the right focal plane, but this seems to have worked reasonably well. It also shows the ability of the K-1's sensor and firmware to capture and reproduce a variety of reds: something that a Nikon-owning friend of mine envies.

Lakeside Treasures

Our local fishing lake is ringed with a strip of untreated grassland. The stream that feeds it is similarly distanced from the arable farmland that surrounds the lake. Butterflies and other insects are therefore concentrated in quite a small (though waist high) area.

Small Skipper, KP and 100WR.

That's a very nice image and a good reminder of how you can find these miniature reserves, if you know what to look for. Thanks for sharing.

A recent Dutch/German study found 75% reduction in flying insects over 27 years. And that was in protected areas!

More than 75 percent decline over 27 years in total flying insect biomass in protected areas
