paired the tamron 90di with the 2 2x TCs wit the removed glass......not really liking this pairing as i don't get any crop at all...feel the tamron performs better on its own.....K-3ii....af360fgz

If you want to get closer with the Tamron = higher magnification, you might try a Raynox unit. The quick attach device will attach one in a flash. With the 150 Raynox you'd be at eight inches with the lens focused to infinity, with the 250 you'd be at four inches before you started focusing the lens closer. The Raynox are not too be thought of in the same breath with ordinary single-element close-up filters. The IQ with a Raynox competes easily with dedicated macro lenses and can be superior to using extension tubes. Track down the Raynox thread on PF for examples.

thanks Presto.....i may at some point get one.....in this case i think the tamron does a better job on it's own for me......i do like using these empty TCs with the sears 135 but the tamron still has that beat.....it's a neat experiment for sure

Yes, the Raynox on macro lens is a great combination that I've just started exploring with my 250. Here are some with a Tamron 52BB 90mm f2.5 and the Raynox 250:

And some from today with the 250 on my Sigma EX DG 70mm f2.8:

and 100% of the above, rotated 90 degrees:

The Sigma 70mm is no slouch on its own, either:

100% of the above:

...and again, 100%. You can see the sawtooth edges of the scales on the wing.

Right from its introduction the Sigma 70mm macro was branded a standout in a field of outstanding lenses. Some regard it as the the best IQ optic ever offered by Sigma. Combine that with the remarkably good Raynox units, small wonder you're getting impressive results.

It really holds up to pixel peeping very well. The Sigma EX DG 50mm f2.8 Macro is also excellent. Haven't tried the Raynox on it yet, but I'm sure it will also produce good pictures. I know the 250 isn't necessarily the best choice for shorter lenses, but it's the Raynox I've got!
