Showed these superb images to SWMBO and following with the later posts asked her if she really wanted to eat strawberries anymore. She replied "Those are the seeds."
End of discussion

Been working on old photo chips organizing, even redeveloping etc. Found this macro from 2018. Don't know why I missed it then as it IS visually "interesting" at least. And I think even has an interesting line or two (IMO, at least).

No idea what the plant is either. Location data says it's on some waste ground in Paradise, Newfoundland along the trail around Octagon Pond. So it's probably some sort of colonizer. Pentax 100mm WR, K-70.

After being entranced by some closeups of people's irises, I decided to give it a try using my girlfriend's right eye as a subject. I don't know how people are able to get such sharp iris pictures. She kept moving her head in and out of focus, blinking, moving her eye, you name it.

Here's my best of the session.

Pentax K-1
Pentax 100mm F/2.8 AW macro
ISO 400
f/5.6
1/20

Processed in Photoshop and Topaz Labs Sharpen AI.

f5.6 at 1/20sec is NOT going to take a great macro picture of an eye!. This leads to shallow depth of field and time for movement in the photographed area.

You need more light on the subject 1) to allow a much smaller f-stop--even like f16 or higher (though try f-10 or so to start)--and 2) to freeze the action much better than 1/20sec. Personally I'd go around 1/320sec to start, but your mileage will likely vary as I "only" have a KP for my 100mm macro!

There is a plethora of good digital and paper resources on macro photography. Check them out.

One of my few officially "published" pics (local CBC website accepted it last spring). Taken with a K-70/100mm WR under brilliant sun in my back yard. Note how thin the DOF in-focus band is in the ice grains even at f20. (At full res the definition is much higher than the much reduced web version here.)
