With respect to IQ, I've seen claims for each being superior to the other, which may indicate they vary slightly depending on the sample. The earlier MF is unit focusing, the AF is internal focusing which can be an advantage. I have the MF version which I've been meaning to offer here on the sell thread, as it has not been used for almost two years and should go to someone who will work it regularly, but it is hard to part with as it's been in my bag for 30 years or so. Lenses are clean, but the metal is scruffy with some brassing. Makes it hard to decide on a reasonable, realistic price, but certainly less than the pristine examples on offer from Japanese sellers.
I am certainly interested in this lenes.
When you have it for so long, it is certainly difficult to part with.

Nice image showcasing what the lens can do. Thanks for posting. Until Laowa released the 100mm 2x and the 2-5x(?) Thomas Shahan rarely used anything other than a reversed lens.

In the first post of a thread, you can usually find the general rules of the lens club. This was Ash's orginal intention for the club:

That said, I've never seen anyone complain about macro images here, regardless of gear. When Ash started the club, I believe that dedicated macro lenses all focused to infinity. The 4.5x stack I posted was taken a lens that is more like a microscope objective, is focused like one, and will never reach infinty. But in a sense, it is a dedicated macro lens.

There is also a macro thread "Macro By Any Means" that could probably use some love. I'd also post the image there. I imagine that most who subscribe here also subcribe to that club if they know about it. People look there for alternatives. Not every lens is as good for macro as yours when reversed, so it is good information for someone looking on that club for macro without the expense of a dedicated lens. It's not always just for inexpensive alternative macro. A couple years ago I posted images taken with a 10x microscope objective there. I probably posted it here as well.

Thanks for the kind words. I've not done a lot at that level, as the difficulty (and time!) increases with the magnification. It is a lot of fun to see details not visible by eye.
OK, I'll post it in the macro by any means club as well and dig out my M100/4 macro, though that has its issues. Indeed, the difficulty increases the more we wander into the microscopic and macroscopic (I'm into astrophotography as well) world. Challenging, but very satisfying.

Last night's test shots around dusk with Flashpoint mini (thanks Aaron28). Yesterday it was still $50 at Adorama.

The bumblebee overnighted at the base of the flower. 10.6MP crop.

The yellow flower is a 14.4MP crop. The 2x enlargement of the center has a little insect. It's always fun to find someting unexpected.

These are nice, and the discovery of the little insect is indeed a pleasant surprise, perhaps even the reason to engage in macrophotography.

In the Long Grass

We are very fortunate here to have several large fields of unimproved grassland. At this time of year, they are home to thousands of moths and butterflies. If you accept that you are also going to be food for the horseflies, staking out some of the food plants and resting places can be very rewarding. The insects tend to settle when the clouds come over, so ISO can climb a fair bit.

These are lovely, especially the first one, where the colours in the insect and plant match very nicely.
