Impressive! Wish Sigma still made this lens.

Thank you. This is the only Mantis seen this year. He was right by the house door. Thought IR fit the subject.

Thanks,
barondla
It is my favourite lens on a crop sensor, despite the challenges of a 50% in-focus rate. What with the Sigma and the Irix 150mm, my 100WR isn't seeing much action. That will change when the subject doesn't fly...

The IR really makes it otherworldly.

First shot posted from Pentax K-01 full spectrum camera. Used DFA100 macro, Hoya 72 IR filter and Pentax AF160 ringflash. Surprised the ringflash outputs enough IR for this to work

Thanks for looking,
barondla
Interesting shot. The mantis looks rather small.

It's always fun to take out a macro as an everyday walk around lens. You miss some images, but some images you wouldnot get with it.

K-3 and DFA 100 macro

And back on the property.

Thanks. He was small. About 1-1.5 inches long and very green. Probably a youngster. Saw some that just hatched once. They were so tiny, maybe .25". Hope to see that again some day.

Thanks,
barondla

The DFA 100 macro seems to do just fine for non-macro use.

Without question (I think) the all time best walkaround Pentax lens has to be the SMC Pentax-A 1:2.8 50mm macro. It even makes up for its lack of reach by supporting monster crops and enlargements.

Spectacular image. The detail is amazing. 257 exposures is a lot of work. It was worth it.

Thanks for sharing,
barondla

Nice. 257 image stack is crazy. How long did it take to do the stacking?
