I'm continually amazed at how good this lens is [VL 125/2.5]. It out-shined my Sigma 300/2.8 this past week IMO as can be seen in my recent 'BJ' posts...

Here's a 100% crop, taken from about 5 or 6 feet away, available light, f/4, 1/60sec, on a tripod.

@ m80 great shot - love the bird's eyes!

@TKH - wonderful shot. Love the texture.

@ and & Kelly - I see a Zeiss thread had been starting up, too.. There's some great glass out there! I need to get shooting today!

Enjoy!

I kinda got a surprise the other day with the Nokton. I've been shooting it almost exclusively lately, and almost always at 1.4. I've bragged of its soft, diffusive qualities wide open but I guess I learned a thing about focusing at f1.4 - DoF is really, really thin. Because, until now I didn't really know the Nokton was hiding a really sharp IQ under all the diffusion, if you hit it just right:

Voigtlander 58mm Nokton @ f1.4:

I will not let this drive me nuts trying to hit the razers edge with every open shot. I will not let this drive me nuts trying to hit the razers edge with every open shot. I will not let this drive me nuts trying to hit the razers edge with every open shot. I will not let this drive me nuts trying to hit the razers edge with every open shot. uhhh.. . sorry.

I think I can see the individual cells in those leaves!

As sharp as it is, though, I still mostly notice that incredible bokeh. Good bokeh with a really colorful background is a site to behold. (especially green/blue, my personal fave.)

Nice shot Kelly. Don't sweat the razor's edge every time.

Just a shot of this evening with the Voigtlander 125/2.5:

1/400s f/8.0 at 125.0mm iso640

I am waiting on a Zeiss Planar 100/2 ZK to compare both lenses... According to the Zeiss rep here in Switzerland, I should have this lens since three weeks, according to Zeiss themselves, this lens will come on the market in Pentax mount normally by mid of July of this year (no idea why he added "of this year").

Nice shot - I'll be very interested to see your comparisons and hear your thoughts between the two!

I will certainly post some comparison shots, once I get this lens... I am also wondering if the Zeiss 100/2 will perform as nicely on the Pentax F 1.7x AF converter as the Voigtlander.

When I first got the Nokton, one minor thing that bugged me was the inability to cap the lens with the hood attached. I like to keep the hood attached, but want to keep dust off of the front element when in the bag. I bought one of these to use as a lenscap over the hood and it works like a dream. FYI.
