If you can wait a few more days, I and another member here are doing a shootout between the Contax-Zeiss 28/2.8 and the Pentax FA31 LTD. I've been working on it for the last week, just finished the photo end of it today. Briefly though, I'm liking it.
Absolutely. Excited to see what results you come up with !

Agreed, love the bokeh from the Nokton.....I need another fifty, like a need a hole in the head....but I really want this lens. Might have to ditch my FA 50's and grab one of these, while they can still be found.

Its getting harder and harder to find these. I believe that the people who DO get these kinds of lenses do not do so on impulse, as may happen with limiteds and DAs, given there is more "hooplaa" about those. I look at these lenses as somewhat premeditated purchases, with remote lilkelihood of buyer's remorse. As a result, fewer used onces come up for sale on this forum.

Keep an eye out for some returned pieces at some of our favorite stores, and you may snag an open box or demo version. Once the decision is made, keep the money aside, and keep looking - you may not have much time once you see it!

neat find...very interesting to see the rather significant size difference. I did figure the 1.1 would be larger but that looks to be almost a 2x difference. Not that the size would bother me if I wanted that beastie...

Somewhere I remember running across a review of the 1.1 vs. other fast "fitty's". It was an interesting comparison, if I can find it again I'll drop by with the link.

A very good alternative for the Voigtländer 125mm is the Zeiss 100mm f2.0 Makro Planar. There are even people that prefer the Zeiss. I know a person from the forums who has both and he would indeed prefer the Voigtländer but only for the macro use. For general IQ, he judged both to be about equivalent.
Just a thought. The Zeiss should be easier to find. I know of an auction where a new one is on sale right now. Also for a hefty price but still cheaper than the Voigtländer that comes very rarely up for sale.
Thanks for the feedback Bart. From the time I first picked up a camera as a kid, an old Rollei 7D TWR, Zeiss was "the glass" to own. And I don't see it as any less so today. Still I have become so enamored with the Voightlander glass under Cosina's ownership that I would sort of feel like I was "cheating" if I bought that fantastic Zeiss 100/2.0.

I am patient and can wait until I have sold my extra kidney and perhaps a lobe or two of my liver to fund the Voightlander 125. Right now I am working on tje 645D around the end of the year so that 125 would be only if I decided against the 645D and it's two new lenses and a few of the older bits of glass. Seems It's gonna be an expensive year after all. But having a new hip installed next year so I wanna have all my toys in place for the rehab...how's that for rationalization?

Best of luck with your quest, and with the surgery of course.

That's just superb Les and I encourage anyone reading this thread and interested in any of the 31/Ltd, Zeiss 28/2.8 or Leica 28/2.8 to go and read Les' review.

Thanks, Les. I now have the Ultron 40 and Nokton 58. Although close in focal lengths, I now understand what you meant when you said they rendered differently. The Ultron has now become my walk around lens. I take it when I travel to different conference in different cities - as a 1 camera/1 lens pack.

If there is a further need, I will trown in the A28/2.8 and the M100/2.8 for measure. Thanks for your contribution to my love for these VL-lenses..
