Its a really nice lens, even though the last versions (like mine) were not not a real Voigtlander, the design is a Zeiss Tele Tessar. Its a very sharp lens wide open and the colors are quite natural, i like it. Here are some samples, all f4
Lovely, it seems to yield the "Zeiss look" for sure, beautiful color.

Boy would I love to see you do some comparison shots with the Zeiss 21 and the VL 20. Not at all apertures, just at their best-resolution aperture (say 5.6 or 8) to see what the VL 20 loses to the Zeiss.
It's just arrived. Tried it. At least, it can't match the zeiss wide open. Will do comparison shooting in saturday.

Awesome, really looking forward to it. Of course, I don't think anyone expects the Voigtlander 20 to match the Zeiss wide open, or to match it anywhere but possibly the center since the Zeiss is known for solid corner to corner performance at all apertures up to f11.

Just expressing what would be interesting to me in addition to whatever you decided to test, it is how close/far the VL's best aperture for resolution of f8 comes comes to the Zeiss at f8, and, especially, how close/far they are in color and contrast rendering (since color/contrast is what attracts me most to lenses).

So, first impressions without actual shooting:
Manual focusing is much easier with distagon (it's very contrast wide open and things are jump into the DOF with CZ).
Build quality is excellent for both lenses, but I slightly prefer the one of VL, with its rubber focusing ring. The front cap of VL is MUCH BETTER. I was amazed how bad it was for CZ when I first saw it.
The handling is much better with tiny VL without a doubt
I also prefer the look of voigtlander.

I too prefer the build of my VL 58/1.4 over my Zeiss 35/2. Seems to me the latter has a tiny bit of play where it hits the mount. I also prefer the rubber focusing rings and lens caps on VLs.

I presently and have in the past owned several DA and FA lenses, even DA Ltd lenses but, call it sacrilege if you want, I think the color rendition of the CV Nokton 58/1.4 SLII is just so much richer. The only Pentax lens I have owned which comes close to the Voigt in richness of color is the FA20-35/4. No DA lens I have tried comes close to the voigt. Of course that's just me...

Those ARE gorgeous colours Vince !

Les if you keep posting shots of the VL 90 I'm going to have to get it (and there is a 2nd hand one in PK mount that has been sitting in one of the shops I go to for months ! Selling at US$430. Hmmm). I keep telling myself I don't need it because it's not a FL I use a lot (but it's so pretty) and because I have a Tamron 90 di which is just about as sharp (and has a very smooth bokeh) as you can get !

Thanks Zoltan

Question to those that have tried the CV20/3.5 SLII and the DA40/3.2 Ltd. - Which of the two lenses would you keep?

I presently have the DA40Ltd and have the opportunity to exchange it for the CV20/3.5 SLII. I'm not very happy with the color rendition of the DA40Ltd. (too "digital" looking IMHO) compared to my CV Nokton 58/1.4 SLII.

Help!!
