Nice images. Why'd you get rid of it?

I wanted to slim down the lens collection, and wated AF so swapped out the VL58 & FA135 for a Sigma 85mm f1.4 HSM.

Both the VL58 and VL90 are excellent lenses, super smooth bokeh, especially on the 90mm APO.

Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 180mm f/4 SL

Spring starts to show itself in Sonoma County, CA wine country with the flowering of mustard plants planted between rows. It's used to suppress soil-borne pests, and is plowed under a bit later. According to Cornell University it works like this:
QuoteQuote:
“Brassicas such as cabbage, kale, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, mustard, and turnips naturally produce glucosinolates, the compounds that make certain brassicas “hot”. Brassicas sold as cover crops have been identified or specifically developed to contain very high levels of these glucosinolates. The higher the levels of glucosinolates present, the better the biofumigant effect. The process works as so: when plant cells are damaged such as by chopping, glucosinolates are released and come in contact with an enzyme (myrosinase). In the presence of water, the reaction produces the natural gas isothiocyanate (ITC). ITC is responsible for the suppressive effects of the practice. ITC is similar to the active ingredient in Metham Sodium or the conventional fumigant Vapam (a.i. Methyl ITC). In addition to the soil biofumigation benefits, brassica cover crops are ideal for adding organic matter to the soil and improving many soil health related characteristics due to the large quantity of “green” or fresh biomass produced and incorporated into the system.”

Of course, I just think it's beautiful, captured in the distance with the VL 180mm:

Makes sense for AF especially if you do a lot of portraits....I always get a roll of the eyes as I'm trying to nail focus. Plus the images I've seen from the Sigma are really good.

I've been trying to make my kit as compact as possible. I started out with just two zooms, the DA 16-85 and the DA 60-250. Both fantastic zooms, but I missed having a couple of primes. Also, the DA 60-250 is a beast. Reviewing my long shots I noticed I seldom shot over 200mm, so I sold the 60-250 and re-acquired the VL 180 (which I'd sold for some reason that still mystifies me). The VL 180 is now serving as my only telephoto, and so far it seems a great choice. Fantastic IQ—so good a crop of a distant shot equals the quality of longer prime lenses. And at 485 grams/3inches and just about fitting in the hand even with a hood on it, it is the epitome of compact quality:

If you ever feel the desire to part with this one just give me a ring and I'd be happy to drive up and take it off of your hands. I've been looking for a copy for a little bit.

I was so surprised when you were selling your collection of VL primes few years ago. Congrats on getting back to the club! 180/4 is immaculate lens.

My restored whip

Recently had my lugged steel frame stripped down and repainted. Not bad for a 29 year old frame. Rides just as solid as when I bought it. I've updated the components...though I contemplated putting back on the down tube shifters. Images taken with VL 58 at f2.2

Messing around wide open.

The clover is in bloom around me so I was messing around with a close focus and wide open look at the clover. One I missed the focus but like it anyway. The second i hit the focus.....

Didn't get much of a chance to take out the 58 because of rain but snuck in one in between the rain drops. Shot at f6.3

Once I almost ordered this lens from a seller on eBay. Finally I didn't as I thought that I already had too many 50mm lenses. Your photos make me regret that I did not buy it (and who knows if there ever will be 2nd chance).
