It looks like I'm tentatively going to be joining this club in a big way in a few days. I was eyeballing the big sale on the Pentax gear on B&H, and realized that even on sale buying even two of the Limiteds would break my budget.

Then I came to the realization that I could buy three manual focus Samyangs for much, much cheaper. Right now I have the 14mm, 35mm and 85mm all sitting in my cart waiting for my refund to kick in on Friday.

Who needs autofocus anyway?

My question is this: if Pentax has the Three princesses/Three Amigos, what would Samyang's three big primes be known as? If they don't have a name already, I would like to put the "Three Stooges" out for consideration.

Look like a joke at first, and you may not quite get them, but once you do you realize that they're brilliant.

Just got a 14mm f2.7, so I'm joining. Here's a few of my first shots, on/around the opera house in Oslo.

Samyang 10 mm

Hello I'm new in this Forum , and I want to say sorry for my english in advance, but I hope that we can improve ensemble.

I purchased recently Samyang 10 mm lens, and this is my first photo with that.
I'm very pleased with the performance and I am sure will be my faithful companion of exits.

Congratulations on the new lens. Nice first post with it. Did you get the 14mm and 85mm too? Look forward to seeing more from you with the 35mm.

I skipped the 14mm in lieu of adding more to the tripod budget. I did get the 85mm as well, but the 35mm has kind of taken over. I was completely not expecting that lens to grab me as it has.

I am not surprised at all. I am currently struggling with choosing a ~35mm for my ZX5n. Am considering the DA 40 XS over DA 35 2.4. The Samyang is bigger than my current budget and size preference. Still a very lovely lens though! Enjoy it!

How's the 85? I want to get something around that focal length and was considering it, but I feel like for a longer prime I'd want autofocus, since i'd probably mostly be using it for portraits and streets.

For 'planned' portraits, the 85 is fantastic, since AF wouldn't come into play as much. Off the cuff and for street would be another story. The 85 has a really obnoxious minimum focus distance (about twice what the 35 has), plus both lenses are huge.

Theres nothing subtle about either of the two lenses, size-wise - the 85 is about the same size as my Sigma 10-20. I'd think a limited would be much, MUCH better for street shooting due to being lighter and less 'in your face' so to speak.

I'm not saying you couldn't stop the 85 down and use it with hyperfocal, but its still a big, heavy, intimidating looking piece of glass.

Heres a group shot, just to get an idea of the size - the 85 is on the right, next to a 135. Note that's with the hood down - you can't use the lens tat way (its either remove the hood or use it on the lens - it blocks the focus ring when stored the way shown here). The 35 is the huge beast in the back next to the retracted Sigma 70-300.

I'm looking at the samyang or the sigma 85 (which is a lot more expensive). Neither of them are subtle, but I don't really care about that-- the K-3 really isn't a subtle street setup to begin with.

Well if you don't mind not being subtle, then the 85 should be awesome. Its an amazing piece of glass, and I would probably have it adhered to my K-3 if I hadn't made the mistake of mounting the 35 on it to check out what it could do.

The only real caveat left is weight, and if you don't mind lugging it around, go for it. Its an amazing low-light lens. It's making me rethink my decision to skip the 14mm with the sheer feel of the thing. On the PF rating scale I would easily give it a nine or a ten. My only real issues are with the longish minimal focus distance and the inability to focus with the hood reversed (and that's about as petty as you can get).

I'm officially qualified to be a member!

I bought a Samyang 28-70mm macro zoom this morning on eBay.... in a mad fit of LBA! For $10.95, where else can I find a few hours of entertainment? Anyway, this will be my first Samyang lens. What can I expect from this lens?
