took a peek at the rokinon facebook page and found this
"The next lens in the pipeline is a 24mm F1.4 lens. We will be releasing it in September."

" The 24mm will not have a built in hood. It will take a 77mm size filter"

Sounds great to me. Right now our fastest option is the Sigma 24/1.8, which is fairly good, but I think a MF (with the focus direction like Pentax) 1.4 will be great. I hope it will have some close-up ability like the Sigma..1:3 or 1:4 would be nice.

from what we've seen of samyang lenses so far, it's probably safe to assume that it'll perform similarly to a canon L or nikon G equivalent.

also:
me: "any ballpark estimates on pricing for the 24mm?"

Rokinon: "It should be slightly more than the 35mm lens. Probably around 550"

Nice work! $550 sounds about right, I'm looking forward to the announcement.

Question: how do you know who really made your Samyang lens? I've searched google and the names come up associated with Promaster. But how do you really tell?

Here are a couple of shots from yesterday when I got the lens. These were handheld so not quite as sharp as my other bird photos from the 70-300 sigma lens. Next shots will be with lens tripod mounted. I was just testing the lens for reach.
Ibis:

And some kind of egret or heron. I could not find a definite ID on this bird. I think it's a juvenile Little Blue Heron.

And someone said they saw PF on these photos. I can't tell if there is any or not.

The second bird is an immature snowy egret. I use siblys guide as it is the only guide I have found that displays not only adult birds but also immature ones. The combination of leg and bill color is the key to identifying white herons and egrets

As for who made samyang lenses, why samyang of course. They make lenses marketed under many other names but they do not to my knowledge put their name on anything bit their lenses. That is part of why I started this club. Users of bower, proOptic, vivitar etc can all post here

This has been my problem all along, Lowell, the guide I use, Cornell Labs on birds, doesn't always show immature or even juvenile birds. Thanks for the ID. Is siblys online or a bought book?

Thanks for clarification on my lens also.

Siblys is a printed book but there is also an IPod app. I have both. It is not cheap, I think the app is $20 but well worth it

I guess I'll have to look for the printed book because I don't own a Ipod.

For PF, look at high contrast areas, usually white to darker colors. On the second photo, it's a bit prominent on the top of the head of the egret. That said, I like that photo.

I forget to look for PF when processing photos. I see the part you're talking about icy, and also along the back there is some. But on the Ibis, I don't see any at all. The black fringe near its tail is black feathers that are natural.

And thanks for the compliment.

I think it's the other way around. Samyang is the manufacturer, ProMaster, Rokinon, Vivitar and Samyang are the brands under which Samyang lenses would be sold, with cosmetic differences as specified by the rebranding companies.

Thanks,

Here are a couple of shots taken with Rokinon 85/1.4, both shots were taken at or near MFD, f2.8 and f1.4 respectively.

Thanks Photolady, that's a nice bird shot. The exif info didn't come through for your picture - looks like somewhat higher ISO shot, the grainy background looks quite pleasing actually.
