Hey, I could use some advise. I'm interested in landscape astrophotography and I'm looking for a good lens. I've seen the Samyan 14mm, 16mm, and 24mm all mentioned. Do you guys have any advice on which I should go with?
Don't forget the wider you get, the more specialized your use of the lens becomes. The Samyangs are all pretty much even as far as quality goes, so its more of a choice for which focal length attracts you.

If you have K-1, you can't use the 16mm (its APSC only). But usually I recommend this lens, because it has fast aperture, it is really wide, but not awkwardly wide. And you can use filters. So if you have APSC camera, go for it. The 24mm is a little more expensive. I went with 14mm and its very sharp, FF compatible. Get one with warranty and make sure it has no decentering. I don't think Samyang 14mm, 16mm, or 24mm will disappoint you. Actually, pretty much all modern Samyang primes are good, its just a matter of finding what you want

I only know the 16mm which is just great for astro purposes. I'm using the K-5 II and its sensor is better for low light than that of the K-3 that my son has. So I'd recommend skipping the K-3 II and choosing the KP or the K-3 successor which I sincerely hope will come out soon.

Just to show how ridiculous the 35mm is, this is wide open. My older son just joined scouts, so we picked him up his uniform. I took a bunch of shots at the store only to realize I'd screwed up and left the camera on 200mm so the shake resistance actually killed my shots.

Wound up racing the sunset to get down by the lake here, and I was stuck using on-board flash (something I usually avoid like the plague).

This is f/1.4 (yes, wide open), ISO 3200 1/180 seconds. Bower/Samyang 35mm.

Rokinon Tilt-Shift 24mm f/3.5 ED

I purchased a K1 back in May this year and 100 mm DFA Macro WR. I am in the market for a wide angle and a standard lens in the next 6 to 8 months. The standard I have my heart set on is the Pentax 50 1.4 to be released Spring of 2018. The wide angle options are a little more confusing, One I have read up on extensively is the Rokinon 24 mm tilt shift 3.5. I have read DDoram's post here on the lens and also requested his input in private messages. He kindly responded. He recommends this lens for what it does and has no issues with it. Below are three reviews with test pictures that conclude when used correctly, it is a great bargain. Other reviews have not been so good; but I think a lot of that has to do with wide open sharpness comparisons to a Canon tilt shift that cost three times as much. I am interested to know if anyone else has experience with this lens. In particular, but not limited to, on a K1.

Two quick tests I made of the Rokinon 135 F2 with the astrotracer. The first picture is M45, a single 50 s shot at F2.0. The second has the Flame, Horsehead and M42 and even M78 at the very left. 4 X 60 s iso 400 with K-50. In both images 3 darks and 3 flats were applied to the lights.

I'm really happy to see the 135 working so well with the astrotracer.

Nice pics!

Your infinity focus is slightly off. You can always calibrate it with using Live View. However you you have to mark the hard infinity stop unless you do a mechanical calibration for the ring.
