I once did something like that with two types of extension tubes and a Helios or Tak lens on the front (but nothing reversed) taking shots outdoors, and I started getting dirty looks from people who thought I was taking paparazzi shots of kids at a local school even though I couldn't focus on anything more than a centimeter or two away.

Dirty looks characterize their thoughts, not yours. Although they think the opposite.

Hi Everyone,

I was pointed to this club by someone on the Macro lens club so here goes. A beetle, single shot, taken with a reversed super takumar 28/3.5 on a K-50. I forgot to change the FL for the shake reduction system, so that still reads 135 mm. Looking at what is in the rest of the club, this may well be nice and addictive so I'll definitely try some more macro by any means work.

All the best,
Hans

The 28 f3.5 has a very good reputation for macro work when mounted in reverse.

That's good hear, I find it quite challenging to deal with, but when it works, it is brilliant.

Around 1/3 to 1/2 life size, macro gets challenging. Above life size it's like using a 1500mm telephoto. A totally different realm. Just getting your subject framed and roughly in focus is very difficult. If the lens is 1/4 inch too close or too far away, the subject may be so far out of focus you that cannot even see it. HINT: If you're working inside in a "studio" setting. it's often easier to set the camera + lens rigidly and move the subject until it is framed and focused.

FOLLOW UP: Here are two excellent deep macro websites.

FOR CRITICAL EVALUATION OF LENSES: http://coinimaging.com/Lens_tests.html

FOR EXCELLENT INFORMATION ON "DEEP MACRO:" extreme-macro.co.uk

For the second site, there's a table of contents/subjects in a green box along the right. Just click on whatever looks interesting.

Nass, who put together that site, was a regular on PF but I have not seen posts from him recently. He may be using threads that I don't follow. Too many threads on PF to look just once weekly at each of them.

Thanks for the links. I knew about Nass' site, but not the other. Last post by Nass on the forum was 10/19/2019.

Three images of lichen on a piece of wood. All taken with a reversed super takumar 28/3.5 and illuminated with an Ikea led light.
Nice color & detail. Some lichen & fungii fluoresce when exposed to UV light. It is also a nice subject for focus stacking!

Wow, for a non-macro lens that sure does get close.
