Nice shot. Reminds me of the green and yellow tones my FA 50 1.7 cranks out.

I can't believe you managed that shot with the M50 1.7. May I ask how bad were the high contrast edges and was it fixed automagically by software, or did you have to go through a salvage process with them?

I sold my M50 1.7 for DA 1.8, because with the kind of contrast you have there, my success rate with the M was about 0 %. Now you got me thinking I may have had a defective copy....

You may have had a defective copy. I only made minor curve and fill light adjustments on this shot, and even took the saturation down a bit. I've never had any contrast or sharpness problems with my M 50 1.7. The only issues I've had with it really are the bokeh highlights between f2 and f4, and my copy has a slight bit of play on the focus ring (it's just not as smooth as the Takumars). It's the first vintage glass I've ever acquired, yet still one of the best I've ever tried. Even after I acquired the FA 50 1.7, I still kept the M coz it has some different qualities to it (especially in backlit situations).

Fantastic sharp image . . . I have the lens and get consistently excellent results. I really think the Pentax 50mm f 2.8 macro is one of the most underrated Pentax lenses.

It has a 9.65 score which is outstanding in the database here, but I know what you mean, it is a lot more than just a great macro lens. I use it now as my normal 50mm, just like I use my DA35/2.8 macro as my all around 35mm. I chose it over a F50/1.4 because I don't generally ever shoot portraits at less than 2.8, and it gives me true 1:1 macro when I want it, again like my DA35 Ltd.

Another with the Sigma 50 f/1.4. Low light, wide open.

You are right that the lens is rated quite high, and I believe rightly so. However, I simply do not see the kinds of user comments about it that you see for the FA limiteds, and in my view it is right up there with the 43 and 77, though I do not have the 31 so cannot comment on it.

The poor old M2.0 gets no respect. Perhaps because there is an almost fanatic preoccupation with shallow depth of field for it's own sake. These shots were with a Taiwan made M2.0. The close one was at 1/2 second (braced hand held) wide open. The distant scene f11 at 1/125 with a Pentax KM film camera. There is nothing wrong with this lens for all but the most demanding uses., and it's price is most reasonable.
