Closeups with Sears 50 mm f 1.4

Checking out DOF with new Auto Sears 50 mm f 1.4, all wide open with K-5II, handheld, ambient florescent light. I received this lens in near mint condition. It operates like a Pentax M lens, no A setting. This seems to be quite a nice lens, but I have no idea who made it for Sears. It is made in Japan, maybe Chinon?

ADDED NOTE: The one Forum review on this lens by Forum colleague JIMR-PDX rates the lens 9 for sharpness, but only 6 for background blur. This reviewer suggests that it was produced by Ricoh (Rikenon). My own visual comparison of these two lens tends to support this origin. My Rikenon 1.4 has the Ricoh pin (non-lethal variety), but shows more similarities than would likely occur by coincidence.

Couple of outside shots with Auto Sears 50/1.4

Here are a couple of early morning shots from the yard around our house with the Auto Sears 50 mm f 1.4, but stopped down to around f8.0. Camera was Pentax K-5II.

If you haven't, you should check your diopter setting - it's the little knob next to the viewfinder. That said, at 1.4 the focal plane is very shallow on this lens, soit's hard to hit exactly.
From your description, all my 50 mm Sears lenses (2.0, 1.7, 1.4) are all Chinons, which I can believe because these Sears lenses are all over performers. I also have a Sears 135 mm f 2.8 which sports the typical Chinon colors, and it is also an over performer, unbelievably sharp with excellent out of focus blur, amazing for what today is a $15 lens on eBay. (I also have 50 & 135 auto Sears in like new condition for Canon mint & if anyone is interested drop me a private message and you can have them for a song.)

Agreed 100% ... and the step down, are you going to use it as a hood substitute (?), J

Thank you Chuck and Jean. And furryurry, that combination is the simplest I've been able to find, but I hear people talk about a 49mm to 28mm step-down ring. Yes, as a hood.

I used to have the Sears MC 50 f/1.7. It was excellent. Fantastically sharp wide open.

here's an ended listing on what you are looking for, you probably saw it in other threads, try and contact the seller, I did and he says they DO have it in that size...but I for some reason cannot see an active listing for it >.>
