Brown stringybark. Flowers only once every 7 years on average, so this is pretty special. Pentax K-30 + A 50 f1.7.

Shot on a Pentax K-r using a Pentax SMC-M 50mm f1.4 lens. ISO 100, 1/160 sec at f1.4

Lighting was from three ancient Sunpak flashguns mounted in a single Lastolite Umbrella, model was standing close to a white wall so there is some bounce-back. I had a set of Christmas tree lights hanging from a light stand behind her and we tried to get them lined up nicely for the shot. Manual focus was a pain in the dimly lit room where we were shooting, and it took a fair number of attempts to get this shot. Thanks are due to Barbara for being so willing to keep trying! In the end I did minimal post-work; moved the lights slightly to nail the position, darkened the background and lit her hands with a little painted colour sampled from the lights. The layer was painted above the rest and set to "color" blend mode. I did a tiny bit of blur on her skin here and there because close ups with such a sharp lens tend to exaggerate skin details.

This is a delightful picture, and minimum PP keeps it looking natural. Nice work.

Thank you! It was a lot of work to get it, I think I must have taken about twenty attempts before I got two that were in focus. I'll probably be getting an SMC FA 50mm 1.4 at some stage, then images like this one will be easier to obtain. I'm not really ancient yet, but just old enough that my eyesight is not what it was.

K-3 with Rikenon 50 mm f 1.4

K-3 and Rikenon 50 mm f 1.4 at f 8.0 and shutter set with the green button. Handheld inside with southern natural light around noon, no post. This lens could become one of my favorite fifties. Sharpness is excellent, and rendering is quite pleasing. For some reason, this manual lens seems quite easy to find focus (at least with the K-3) using "catch in focus" with the beep sound turned on.

DA 50mm f1.8 in very dark room. AF has been hunting like crazy in double trouble (dark and water), so I switched to MF.
