Yesterday I bought a very lightly used Fujifilm X-M1 mirrorless camera as a small, good quality walk-about cam. The same guy was also selling a NEX 3N (which is what I originally saw and had my eye on) but the Fuji is generally nicer and has a hotshoe, which is important for me so I can use bounce flash. I also think the X system in general is much better than NEX - it's the only current mirrorless system that could tempt me away from Pentax. I'd love that 35mm f/1.4.......

Here's a short set of B&W shots I took yesterday afternoon with the new camera and a Minolta MC Rokkor 50mm f/1.7 lens. All at f/2.8, I think. I'm very impressed with the lens, which I've never used on digital until now. It's ages since I went for a walk with a digital camera and a simple 50mm.

I think with a yellow filter it would have looked better and it would have been an unforgettable pic in terms of definition and balance, but alas I'm still waiting for a 2 mm yellow filter.

However, in colour I like this pic of the same lens:

Very "on the road"...perhaps a slower shutter speed would have helped in giving more a sensation of speed.

For these kind of shots I prefer B&W:

This one has been taken not with a 50mm, but with a close relative, a 55mm, to be precise the Canon FD 55mm f1.2 here:

An heavyweight of the category!
I like the F-1 with 55 mm f 1.2 combination. I have that lens in a different combination. Pentax K-3 with Canon FD 55 mm f 1.2, with mount permanently retooled to K mount. It is a lovely lens with the K-3.

Can you show us the lens modification? I am curious...the FD 55mm is a strange lens, wide open looks very weird, at least the one I have.

Stopped down becomes a "normal" lens, I don't know how it would look on digital tough, not that I'm much interested in digital cameras to be honest.

However, here there's a statue and his creator:

Nikkormat FT3, Nikkor 50mm f2 AI, yellow filter and HP5+

Test Shots with my M-50mm f:1.7

I'm kinda' embarrassed to say that although I bought this lens many months ago, today was my first time in the field with it. Holy Cow! I had NO IDEA what I was missing! This thing is a sharpness monster!

Although I have some deteriorating eyesight problems, manual focusing was relatively easy with this little jewel. In the first image, you can barely see the little spider. In the second image, I enlarged it and was stunned at the detail in the little critter. Also, the sharpness in the flower stalk simply blew my socks off!

Now I know what all the fuss was about!

Dewman, is this the M 50 1.7 or the Sears 50 1.7? The colors look like the Sears that I used to have (too many 50s... had to get rid of it when I got the SMC-F 50 1.7)

This is the Pentax-M f:1.7. I have yet to give the Sears OR the Ricoh f:1.7 their turn.

That's about as perfect an image as I've ever seen! It has it all! Sharpness is 10+, color is top drawer and the detail is amazing! Bravo! The more I see of these images from the K-3 makes me want one more and more!

Just wondering, Ivan..... how long did you spend culling out the less-than-perfect blooms! LOL
