Got a SMC-M 50mm F4 macro a week ago, and took it out tonight. The five aperture blades make for some nice 10-point starbursts. I really like the lens.

Nice work. I didn't realise that any Pentax lenses had so few aperture blades - I though the minimum was six.

There are quite a few with 5 blades (at least that I own):
  • Super-Macro-Takumar 50/4
  • S-M-C Takumar 28/3.5
  • S-M-C Takumar 35/3.5
  • Pentax-M 40/2.8
Seems to be more common with older lenses.

There's a few more that I've had personally that have 5 blades...

M 50/2 (I guess same with A 50/2)
K 24/2.8
M 28/3.5
M and A/28 2.8

Ok, here's a couple with the M 50 1.7... it is one of those lenses that always delivers. First one has a film emulation from RawTherapee, (Agfa Ultra Color 100).

Very nice shot! I have this lens, but have yet to take it out and see what it will do. You've inspired me.

K 3 + Smc PENTAX-DA 50mm F1.8

What is interesting to me about this photo of one of the two Caimans at the Tropical Rain Forest exhibit at the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center is that you don't see the mesh covering the enclosure ( due to pp applied ) rather you see the reflection of the mesh and the reflection of the heat lamp

without the pp, the mesh is barely visible but out of focus
